Nature can become nasty. Just as Joel Groman.

He sent The Icon this praying mantis suppertime photo. Brenda, Joel's mother, took the photo. The locust was still buzzing when the photo was snapped. Yikes!

Now, to some friendly nature scenes.

Dawn King shared these three photos with The Icon, which she took recently. They show a butterfly that was actually tagged. We've read about them, but this is the first one we've ever seen. Also is a very close-up shot of a bee at work, plus some Buckeye butterflies.

Bluffton celebrates the arrival of fall at its eighth annual Fall Festival, Saturday, Sept. 24.

The festival includes activities at seven different locations. Here's information about the day:

Mennonite Memorial Home, 410 W. Elm St., is the hub for all free transportation. Persons attending events are encouraged to park at one of the venues and grab the free horse and wagon rides, or the buses that travel to all locations.

St. John's United Church of Christ will serve their famous beef and noodle dinner at the church (223 West College Avenue, Bluffton) on Friday, Oct. 7, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., according to Rev. Carol Clements, pastor.

The cost is $7 and includes homegrown beef, homemade noodles, mashed potatoes, green beans and bacon, cole slaw, roll, homemade pie, tea, coffee or punch. Eat in, carry out, or delivery can be made by calling 419-358-5641 or 419-358-0479.

Evelyn Michel Sutter

Evelyn L. Michel Sutter, 90, of Bluffton died at 7:53 p.m., Sept. 21, 2011 at Bluffton Hospital. She was born Sept. 5, 1921 in Allen County to Clinton and Leah Peterson Balmer.

On June 28, 1941 she married Clair Michel and he preceded her in death on August 1, 1984. On Dec. 10, 1988 she married Bud Sutter and he died on March 2, 2000.

Connie Kruse of Town and Country Flowers hands a white carnation to a Bluffton University student during the Bluffton chamber's univerity showcase. Twenty businesses introduced their services to students in Marbeck. Here's a video.
