More than a thousand people are expected to attend the F&M Picnic Truck and Tractor Pull at War Memorial Park on Saturday.
The first session begins at 10 a.m., the second at 6:30 p.m. Gates open at 8 a.m. Food vendors will be available. Cost is $10, children 10 and under $5, veterans and seniors free.
Chris Vermillion is president of the Hardin County Pullers. About $2,000 will be given out to winners of the first session; about $12,000 in prize money for the second session winners.
FROM ADA ICON - It’s a heavenly weekend for garage sale buyers and sellers.
It’s Main Street Across America’s Lincoln Highway Buy Way Yard Sale Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Aug. 10-11-12, and Ada is getting ready for a flood of buyers.
The annual event in Ada is sponsored by the Ada Community Improvement Corp. (CIC), which is a member of the Lincoln Highway Association, and the Ada Area Chamber of Commerce.
A map of Ada garage sales will be posted soon on the Bluffton Icon. The map will list sales in the village and in the surrounding countryside.
The Allen County Bike and Pedestrian Task Force will offer a one-hour Lunch and Learn meeting on how businesses can support an active commute, whether it’s biking to and from work or including active transportation into your work day – biking, walking, or taking transit to meetings, errands or lunch.
Any interested business is invited to attend. The meeting will be on Wednesday, Aug. 9, from noon to 1 p.m. at the Lima YMCA, Room 306, Lima.
Bluffton Community Preschool will hold a community open house on Monday, Aug. 7, from 6 to 8 p.m. to let the community tour its new location in the Bluffton Presbyterian Church, 112 Main St.
The event is open to the public and refreshments will be served.
The teaching staff will be present to answer questions parents of children may have. Registration forms are available for last minute enrollments.
The staff encourages parents to bring their children to see the new space.
Bring yourself, friends and family for an afternoon of fun in the gardens, woods and wetlands of The Quarry Farm Nature Preserve & Conservation Farm during the 5th annual Family Day on Saturday, Aug. 5.
From 1 to 4 p.m., see how to make a wren house from a gourd. You can also make a walking staff and take it with you along the trails to count butterflies, Blanchard’s cricket frogs and visit residents of the farm animal sanctuary.
The Family Day starting point will be the Seitz Family Pavilion, one-eighth of a mile north of 14321 Road 7L, Pandora.
