The Icon is a well-respected source for most any bit of information about Bluffton history.

Viewers are assured that we offer a panel of local experts to answer all Bluffton questions sent to us.

An example of this expertise follows: (names are changed for confidentiality).

The Bluffton Icon, in cooperation with the William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications, University of Kansas, invites Icon viewers to participate in a viewer survey.

The survey, designed by the School of Journalism, will assist the Icon in improving its website. It also assists the School of Journalism in its own study of web-based news sources.

For riders in the July 8 Ride to Remember

Bluffton businesses have an opportunity to introduce themselves to participants in this summer’s Ride to Remember bicycle ride, planned here on Saturday, July 8.

Ride planners invite businesses to provide gift items to fill 200 “cinch packs” for registered riders.

Suggested examples include:
• Coupons for use in your business
• Useful items for bike riders
• Treats
• Make certain your business name is on the donated items

Recipient of Order of the Cross of Terra Mariana

A former Bluffton resident, Nils Riess, was recently recognized by the Republic of Estonia. (His wife, Susan, was an Bluffton elementary school teacher.)

The Ohio Northern University Professor of Communication Arts Emeritus was awarded the Order of the Cross of Terra Mariana from the Republic of Estonia.

It's almost March - and here's one of our favorite late-winter scenes: seed packets at Family True Value Hardware, 109 N. Main St., Bluffton.

February 2017 weather on a record-setting warm course

February 2017 is headed toward the weather record books.

There’s eight days remaining in the month, and according to Guy Verhoff, Pandora weather observer, three new record high temperatures are already set.

The new records follow:
Feb. 17 - now 63 was 59 degrees in 2011
Feb. 18 - now 69 was 60 degrees in 1981
Feb. 19 - now 65 was 64 degrees in 1994

Several additional weather-related facts for the first 20 days of February include only a trace of rain was recorded (Feb. 1 and Feb. 15).
