Bluffton Family Recreation is ready for fall.

Dirt pudding is on the menu at the Girl Scout Summer Series held at Bluffton Family Recreation this week.

Nearly a dozen young girls are learning about “It’s Your Planet – Love It,” during the two-hour morning sessions.

Activities include discovering what real scientists do, exploring wonders of science with hands-on activities and learning the scientific method.

During this photo session, girls created dirt pudding, which is an interesting way to learn about soil.

Girls in grades Kindergarten through sixth may participate in a Girl Scout Summer Series held at Bluffton Family Recreation, 215 Snider Road, Bluffton, from 9 to 11 a.m., Monday, Aug. 8, through Friday, Aug. 12.

The series theme is “It’s Your Planet – Love It!” Activities include discovering what real scientists do, exploring wonders of science with hands-on activities and learning the scientific method.

Flag football for youth ages 7 to 10 takes place soon at Bluffton Family Recreation.

Games are Saturdays at 9 a.m. each week from Aug. 22 to Oct. 1. Registration is $55 before Aug. 12 and $65 after the 12th.

Bluffton Family Recreation teams up with Bluffton-Pandora Youth for Christ for a double-elimination coed softball tournament held in the Pandora Park. The event is Monday, Sept. 5, beginning at 9 a.m.

There is room for eight teams.

In addition, the event includes a homerun derby and yard games and picnic for families. The cost is $200 per team. Games start at 9 a.m.

Bluffton Family Recreation is accepting registrations for U6 fall soccer, according to Joseph Beagle, BFR director.

The program is for youth 6 and under. Games are played at BFR on Tuesdays and Thursdays from Aug. 23 to Sept. 29.

Registration ends Friday, Aug. 12 ($5 late fee after Aug. 12). Cost is $45 for members and $60 for non-members.
