Bluffton Family Recreation is selling tickets for a Larson's Barbecue brisket dinner fundraiser.

The dinner is 3 to 7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 12, at BFR, 215 Snider Road, Bluffton.

The fundraiser benefits BFR's indoor arena turf project. Tickets are $9 each and are available while they last.

The dinner includes:
• one-third brisket (sliced)
• Baked beans
• Coleslaw or potato salad
• Dinner roll
 

Bluffton Family Recreation offers several options for keeping active in August, according to Joseph Beagle, director. Here of some of those program options:

Girl Scouts Summer Series
Aug. 8-12

Girls in grades Kindergarten through sixth may participate in a Girl Scout Summer Series held at BFR from 9 to 11 a.m., Monday, Aug. 8, through Friday, Aug. 12.

The series theme is “It’s Your Planet – Love It!” Activities include discovering what real scientists do, exploring wonders of science with hands-on activities and learning the scientific method.

There's still time to register for the Jamar Butler Basketball Camp held Saturday, July 16, at Bluffton Family Recreation.

The camp is at BFR, 215 Snider Road, Bluffton. Grades 1 to 4 sessions are from 9 a.m. to noon. Grades 5 to 8 sessions are from 1 to 4 p.m.

Butler is a former Lima Shawnee and Ohio State University basketball player.

Cost for the camp is $50 and registration includes a t-shirt. Campers should bring water bottles, a basketball and basketball shoes.

A women’s self-defense class is the latest program offered by Bluffton Family Recreation, according to Joseph Beagle, BFR director.

The class takes place at 6 p.m., Thursday, July 21, at BFR, 215 Snider Road, Bluffton. Rick Stoermer is the instructor. The class last approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes.

Class objectives include:
• Building self-confidence
• Mental awareness
• Strike points of the body
• Common items as weapons

Things might slow down in July, but not at Bluffton Family Recreation.

BFR has a summer event for you. Several sports camps, team sports and individual athletic opportunities are available this summer at Bluffton Family Recreation, according to Joseph Beagle.

There’s still time to sign up for this summer’s adult softball league, sponsored by Bluffton Family Recreation.

Games are played Monday or Wednesday evenings at 6 p.m. at the Bluffton village park. The cost per team is $300. League play is from July 11 to Aug. 17.
