Four village council committee meetings set

Several Bluffton council committee meetings were scheduled at the Feb. 11 council meeting. All meetings are in the town hall. Those meet dates follow:

Feb. 20 - Street and alleys, 5 p.m.
Feb. 21 - Ordinance committee, 4 p.m.
Feb. 21 - Village Planning Commission, 7 p.m.
Feb. 25 - Park and recreation committee, 7 p.m.

Carlin Carpenter book signing at Common Grounds

Carlin Carpenter will hold two book signing for "Coaching Football Ain't Easy." The signings are both at Common Grounds coffee house, 101 S. Main St., Bluffton, on Friday, Feb. 15, and Saturday, Feb. 16, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Kathryn Van Dyke: First Maple Crest resident to celebrate 100th birthday

Kathryn Van Dyke of Bluffton just made history – she is the first Maple Crest resident to celebrate her 100th birthday while living at Maple Crest.

On Feb. 3, 2013, Kathryn turned 100 and celebrated with her family. The photo of Kathryn was taken during the Maple Crest monthly birthday party held on Feb. 8.

Kathryn was the seventh of 11 children. She seems to have been born with the family gene for long life.  Her mother lived into her 90s, and her two living sisters are 93 and 106 (Elva Huffman).

BCE: Here's five ways for entrepreneurs to fund a business

Daniel Kehrer founder of BizBest.com recently wrote an article for SCORE on how entrepreneurs fund future growth.

"A common concern I often hear from business owners and startup entrepreneurs is where the money will come from to fund future growth. For some, that might require outside investors, which in turn can mean giving up partial ownership or control," he said.

No drips, no errors

Sarah Foster, executive director of Richland Manor, puts a dab of paint on the wall of the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center. Richland Manor recently donated over $2,000 to the Senior Center and used some of those funds to purchase paint for a new inside paint job. In addition to several Richland Manor employees who volunteered their time, Bluffton University students also helped in the painting project. Click for more information on the project.

Bluffton couple takes "summer" mission trip to Uruguay

This is the time of year when Ohio residents long for an escape from the cold and snow, to someplace where it's summer.  Recently, Bluffton residents Christina and Nathan Seidner did just that with a eight-day mission trip to Uruguay.

Christina, employed at Common Grounds Coffee House, and Nathan, a mechanical engineer at Grob, both belong to the First Assembly of God in Lima. They took part in a mission that included 17 others, including members at churches from Findlay, Wapakoneta and Leipsic.
