Obituaries

Janice L. Umphress, 89, died on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017, at 2:57 a.m. at Memorial Hospital of Union County in Marysville, Ohio.

She was born on Jan. 27, 1928, in Lima, Ohio, to Lee and Rhoda (Hammer) Wingate who preceded her in death. On June 28, 1946, Janice married Maurice "Morrie" Umphress and he died on Aug. 7, 2010.

Janice was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ada and the Women's Guild of the church. Janice was a 1945 graduate of Bluffton High School. She was a member of the Ada Senior Citizens.

John “Jack” Newton Shoupe, 83, died Feb. 21, 2017, at Mennonite Memorial Home in Bluffton. John was born July 13, 1933, in Findlay to Roscoe and Helen (Kelchner) Shoupe, who preceded him in death. On March 4, 1962, he married Louise (Herr) Shoupe who survives.

Jack was an Air Force veteran during the Korean Conflict. He worked for Meadow Gold Dairy as a salesman until his retirement.

Dolores M. Stoodt, 80, died Sunday, Feb. 19, 2017, at 8:20 a.m. at the Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton.

She was born on July 20, 1936, in LaFayette, Ohio, to John Wesley and Thelma (Kidd) Stoodt.

They preceded her in death.

Dolores retired from First Federal Savings and Loan of Lima where she worked as a teller. She then was the secretary for the West Central Ohio Kidney Foundation.

She was a member of the Liberty Chapel United Methodist Church, LaFayette and a 1954 graduate of LaFayette Jackson High School.

John “Jack” Newton Shoupe, 83, died Feb. 21, 2017, at Mennonite Memorial Home in Bluffton. Arrangements are pending at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Service, Bluffton.
 

Former Bluffton resident Evan B. Steiner died Feb. 19, 2017, in Florida, where he lived.

He was born on April 28, 1924, in Bluffton, Ohio, to Mary (Balmer) and Soloman Steiner.  On April 5, 1947, he married Betty Kohli; and, this year they would have celebrated 70 years of marriage.

His children are Carol (Tom) Bell, Westerville, Ohio/Hobe Sound, Fla.; Greg (Chris), Hobe Sound, Fla.,/Indian River, Mich.; Bob (Patsy), Hobe Sound, Fla./Highlands, N.C.  

He has eight grand-children, 17 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

Charles (Chuck) Gossard, 61, died Feb. 18, 2017, at Lima Memorial Health System surrounded by his family.

Chuck was born March 29, 1955, in Bluffton, Ohio, to Lewis and Bernice (Crawfis) Gossard who preceded him in death.

Chuck worked at Wilson Football Factory in Ada. He was also a stay at home father.
