Bluffton police name Kenneth Dotson of Vaughnville, its 2018 Citizen of the Year

A Vaughnsville man with a Bluffton connection is the Bluffton Police Department’s 2018 Citizen of the Year.

The honor goes to Kenneth Dotson, coincidentally the father of Tom Dotson, who owns Tommy Tire. Kenneth Dotson works at Tommy Tire. He was recognized during the Jan. 14 Bluffton council meeting.

Here’s the circumstances surrounding the award:

On Nov. 8 Kenneth Dotson and his wife, Rebecca, were southbound on Interstate 75 near mile marker 138 when they witnessed a two-vehicle accident on the Interstate.

With Senior Options, a Virginia non-profit agency

BHS wins third place trophy

Bluffton High School powerlifting squad, with seven girls competing, walked away with a third place overall team trophy with a combined weight of 2,530 pounds at Saturday's meet at Bellefontaine.

Bob Gordon-Hancock was born in Chelmsford, England. He attended King Edward VI Grammar School. He got his Bachelor's in Social Anthropology from The School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. He then got a Post-graduate diploma in Entrepreneurial Management from University of Wales, Lampeter, where he met his future wife, Elizabeth Beer (Bluffton).

He lived for 33 years following a heart transplant; was one of the longest-living transplant survivors in the world

The following feature is re-posted from November 2015. It shares part of Bob Neff's story as one of the world's longest living survivors of a heart transplant. His heart transplant took place in 1985.

It is believed that the world's longest surviving heart-transplant patient is Susan Law who received a new heart at Papworth Hospital near Cambridge, England, in 1982.

Dave Stratton and Jeff Sprague

Two Bluffton residents – Jeff Sprague and Dave Stratton - continue to play significant roles Allen County economic development.

On Jan. 1 the two were involved in promotions in their roles.

Stratton was promoted to replace Sprague as the president/CEO of Allen Economic Development Group. Sprague became president/CEO of Greater Lima Region.

Prior to the transition, Sprague held both positions. Stratton has served as director of business development for AEDG since 2015. He is a Bluffton High School graduate.
