Over 135 adults and youth participated in a fishing derby at Maple Crest Senior Living Community, Bluffton, during Bluffton’s Fall Festival in late September.

Prizes for the derby went to:
• First guest out fishing – Karson Hauenstein
• First person to catch a fish – Connor McKean
• Persons wearing a “cool” hat – Linda Strahm (sequined black cap) and Gene Grieser (hat from Alice Springs, Central Australia)

Over 40 youth, ages 12 and under, competed in the Maple Crest kiddie tractor pull during the Bluffton Fall Festival in late September.

In Class 1, (the lighter-weight class), Luke Ginther won first place, Nick Lovett was second, and Connor McKean was third.

In Class 2, Eden Nygaard won first place, Lane Wildermuth was second, and Hunter Kuhbander was third. 

The winner of Week 7 of The Icon Football Contest is Adelyn Althaus.  Adelyn correctly picked 14 contests this week.  Adelyn also won week 6 and week 4.

The Icon spoke with Gennifer Akroyd, Mount Cory, who teaches self-defense classes and sells Damsel in Defense products. She is offering a self-defense class Oct. 15 at BFR. See details at end of story.

Andrew Hoff, Bluffton High School senior, is the September student of the month. 

He participates in several school activities including show choir, chamber choir, (District 3 Honors Choir); marching, concert and jazz band member (District 3 Honors Jazz Band); National Honor Society, Drama Club, Latin Club, Buccaneer (yearbook), and Ocean Focus.

The winner of Week 6 of The Icon Football Contest is Adelyn Althaus.  Adelyn and Luke Amstutz both correctly picked 14 games this week.  Both contestants chose the same twotie-breakers.  Adelyn was declared the winner by virtue of entering her picks first.
