Bluffton woman killed in February 16 crash at US 30 and CR 15

RICHLAND TOWNSHIP–The Lima Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a  two-vehicle fatal crash that occurred on February 16, 2023, at approximately 8:20 a.m. The crash occurred at the intersection of US 30 and County Road 15 (Allen/Hancock  County line road) in Richland Township, Allen County. 

Delaney Miller, age 38, of Bluffton, was operating a 2015 Buick Regal, traveling  east on US 30. Ryan Ferguson, age 30, of Frankfort, Indiana was operating a 2003  International semi-truck with trailer, traveling west on US 30. The Buick failed to yield  the right-of-way, turned left to travel north onto County Road 15 and was struck by the  International. Mr. Ferguson suffered minor injuries. Ms. Miller was pronounced deceased  at the scene. 

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by; Hancock County Sheriff’s  Office, Beaverdam-Richland Fire and EMS, Allen County Coroner’s Office, H&H Funeral  Services, Ohio Department of Transportation, Beaverdam Fleet Service and Big Daddy’s Towing. The crash remains under investigation. 

The Ohio State Highway Patrol would like to remind motorists to use extra caution  and give extra space while driving during inclement weather.

Fans don’t let fans drive drunk

Make designating a sober driver your game plan this Super Bowl Sunday

COLUMBUS–As people gather for Super Bowl parties on Sunday, the Ohio State Highway Patrol urges fans to refrain from driving impaired. If you plan on consuming alcohol, don’t drive and plan ahead to designate a sober driver.

In an effort to keep our roadways safe this Super Bowl Sunday, troopers will be cracking down on impaired drivers. You can do your part by reminding friends and family that Fans Don’t Let Fans Drive Drunk.

January 10 vehicle-pedestrian traffic crash report released

The Bluffton Police Department provided the Bluffton Icon with the following details of a January 10 Main St. traffic crash involving a pedestrian in the lane of traffic. The unit in error (vehicle or pedestrian) was unknown.

At 5:48 p.m., Douglas Cade of Rawson, driving a Silverado pickup truck, struck an unnamed juvenile pedestrian. The reporting officer noted that the vehicle “was heading south on Main St. when the pedestrian ran from the library towards the high school.”

The pedestrian was transported by Bluffton EMS to Lima Memorial Hospital with possible injury.

Contributing circumstances in the event was a “failure to yield.” Conditions at the time of the incident were dark with lighted, dry pavement. Neither the driver or pedestrian were listed as distracted.

Allen County 2022 fatal crash report

Lima-Allen County Safe Community Coalition reports that there was one fatal traffic crash during December on Allen County roads.

A total of 15 fatalities occured in Allen County in 2022. In 2021, there was a total of 25 fatalities.

The attached chart shows impaired driving and restaint data for the 2022 fatal crashes.

Suspect sought in December 31 Arlington bank robbery

The Hancock County Sheriff's Office issued the following statement and photograph regarding their search for a suspect in an Arlington, Ohio robbery:

On Saturday 12-31-2022 at 0952 hrs. the Hancock County Sheriff's Office responded to a robbery at the Premier Bank, 112 E. Liberty Street, Arlington, Ohio.

Through investigation it was determined the suspect brandished a note demanding money to one of the tellers before fleeing the business with an undetermined amount of cash.

UPDATE: Highway Patrol announces capture of dangerous escapee

UPDATE: January 2, 2023

Last night at 11:34 p.m., Jacob Davidson was taken into custody near Chapmanville, West Virginia. 

COLUMBUS–The Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently seeking the public’s assistance in locating a dangerous escapee.

On December 29, Jacob D. Davidson escaped from Twin Valley Behavioral Heath Hospital located at 2200 West Broad Street in Columbus. Davidson, 38, is described as a white male with blue eyes, 5’11” tall and 210 pounds. He was last seen with brown hair and a full beard.
