Red Cross assisting Mt. Cory family following house fire

The American Red Cross of Hancock County is helping a Findlay family and a Mt. Cory family following fires in their homes.

A Findlay family of four received assistance for clothing and seasonal clothing and comfort kits with personal hygiene items following the fire in their Elm St. home on Thursday evening.   Red Cross Disaster Responders Bill Davis and Karl Gingrich responded to the call for help.

Ada woman killed, Ada man injured in SR 81 accident this morning

Carla M. Dysert, 56, of Ada, was killed in a two-vehicle accident this morning at 8:42 a.m. on State Route 81 in Allen County, according to a report from the Allen County Sheriff’s office.
James R. Britt, 30, of Ada, was injured in the crash.

According to the sheriff’s report, the crash occurred when Britt, heading eastbound on Ohio State Route 81, lost control of his 1994 Mazda and went over the center line and into the path of Dysert’s 2004 Buick SUV, which was headed west.

Following the crash Britt was transported to St. Rita’s Medical Center.

Bluffton police alert: Several residential burglaries near Bluffton

Bluffton police sent area residents a Nixel alert earlier this evening warning that there have been several residential burglaries in adjacent areas to Bluffton.

The alert encouraged residents to lock cars, homes, and out buildings.

Here's the complete message:

Neighboring law enforcement report a number of home burglaries during the overnight hours. We remind all residents to secure their property, homes, out buildings and vehicles.

Michigan man charged with one count robbery; additional charges being considered in Chase bank robbery

Bluffton's Chase bank was the scene of a robbery this morning (Oct. 21). A statement from Rick Skilliter, Bluffton police chief, explains that a suspect has been arrested.

Skilliter's report follows:

At 8:56 a.m. today a lone white male entered the Chase Bank, 135 S. Main St., Bluffton,  and presented tellers with a note that threatened an explosion if his demand for money was not met. A teller complied with the demand and turned over an undisclosed amount of money. The man fled from the bank.

Nixel alert: Looking for elder Bluffton woman wearing pink coat

Rick Skilliter, Bluffton police chief, sent the following Nixle announcement at 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 15:

Elderly female waked away from College Avenue and Greding Street area earlier this morning. Possibly wearing a pink coat and carrying a black purse. She is 5-feet tall.

Please check your area and report to 911 if you see the female.

Bluffton police warn residents about Lima prison escape

At approximately 9:50 p.m. this evening (Sept. 11), the Bluffton police department sent out the following message on its Nixle alert system:

Prison escape from Lima. Secure property and call 911 to report any suspicious activity.
