Only two very slow trains a day pass through town

Bluffton council plans to remove the stop signs on County Line Road at the Norfolk Southern Railroad, stating the signs are "no longer necessary."

The first reading of the legislation will be read on Monday. The stop signs were put in place in the 1980s after a fatal accident occurred at the crossing. Since that time frequency of trains has decreased to two a day and the speed of those trains is at a very slow pace.

The Village of Bluffton’s personnel committee will meet on Tuesday, June 6, at 4:30 p.m. in the town hall, according to Nancy Kindle, village fiscal officer.
 
 

It should be a short Bluffton council meeting on Monday. The agenda includes the reading of an alley vacation ordinance and reports from committees.

Also hires HS English teacher and HS guidance counselor

On Monday, Bluffton school board accepted the resignation of Tim Closson, elementary principal effective June 30, and his rehire beginning Aug. 1. In August his salary will be reset at $70,000.

Greg Denecker, Bluffton superintendent, told the Icon that if Closson remains as principal for five years the school system will get one year free plus an average savings of over $14,000 per year.

In addition, two new hires were approved for next school year on Monday.

Village administrator interviews are underway

Bluffton council will consider an ordinance that sets rates and fees for village services on Monday evening.

The rate ordinance covers all types of fees include:
• safey services
• cemetery
• administrative and
• recreational
