As perhaps the smallest United Way in Ohio, Bluffton-Beaverdam-Richland Township United Way is at a crossroads.
The local organization has struggled in recent years, failing to meet its annual goal of $26,000.
Adding to that pressure, the national United Way has increased annual participant fees, causing Bluffton’s board to do a self-examination of how or whether to continue to exist or whether to join another area United Way.
Despite heavy rainfall early in the year, the reconstruction and expansion of Interstate 75 through Findlay and Hancock County still hit major milestones in 2019 to keep the project on track.
The $114 million project is in its fourth and final year and is expected to be completed late this fall.
“The way we phased the work last year, plus a mild winter so far this year, has enabled us to work through the winter on bridges and ramps and keep the project on schedule,” said Chris Hughes, Ohio Department of Transportation District 1 deputy director.
New and returning vendors are invited to a meeting with Bluffton Farmers Market manager Greg Probst at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31.
The meeting will take place on the third floor of Bluffton Town Hall, 154 N. Main St. That evening, vendors will learn about promotional opportunities and may reserve full-year spaces at a discounted price.
Located in the Citizens National Bank parking lot in downtown Bluffton, the Bluffton Farmers Market is open on Saturday mornings from 8:30 a.m. - noon, May through October.
Dave Stratton, Bluffton resident and partner in a Main Street business here, has an economic development viewpoint that covers the entire county.
As director and CEO of Allen Economic Development Group, he told Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce members on Friday morning that he sees lots of possibilities for the county.
“We are not just for Lima. We cover Bluffton, Delphos, and the Spencerville communities,” he said about AEDG’s outreach.
Bluffton council's Finance Committee will meet at noon on Wednesday, Feb. 19, according to Kevin Nichel, village fiscal officer. The meeting will be in the town hall, 154 N. Main St.
