Resurfacing and reconstruction at Beaverdam will impact traffic

Beginning Sunday, March 15, Interstate 75 at state Route 696, near the village of Beaverdam, will have nightly lane closures from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. to set up the work zone. 

Bluffton Boy Scout Troop 256 collecting for food pantry

Bluffton Boy Scout troop 256 is "Scouting for Food," on Saturday, March 14.

The scouts will collect non-perishable food items for the Bluffton Community Assistance Program's food pantry.

Persons interested in contributing may leave food items in a bag or box on front porches. Collection takes place until noon on Saturday.

If you bag does not get picked up by the end of the day, contact 419-422-4356.

Responding to this afternoon’s announcement by Gov. Mike DeWine to close Ohio schools for three weeks, Bluffton schools sent five Ohio Alert messages from 3:49 to 4:06 p.m. this afternoon.

The Icon will continue to post those alerts are they are sent.  Watch the Icon for further updates. The Alert messages follow:

• We will not have school on Monday 3/16 thru Friday 4/3/20 which is 3 full weeks.

Superintendent Denecker: "If we would need to close for a period of time.... this will likely be some type of online/electronic education format, depending on the grade level"

Greg Denecker, Bluffton schools superintendent, issued the following letter  to parents, students staff and the community concerning the COVIC-19.

Pancake day on March 21 • Community meals on March 19 & April 2 • Bingo with Good Samaritan March 16 & April 20

The following activities at the Bluffton Senior Center have been canceled because of the COVID-19 virus concerns

• Pancake Day on March 21

• Community meals on March 19 and April 2

• Bingo with Good Samaritan on March 16 and April 20

"We hope to keep our doors open for those who are healthy for as long as possible, but we will continue to make decisions about programs on a daily basis," said Tonya Meyer, Center director.

The following is the policy the Center has put into place:

Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce announces that its Friday, March 13, chamber breakfast is cancelled, according to Paula Scott of the chamber.

"In response to coronavirus recommendations by Gov. DeWine, we have determined that this is a non-essential event," she said.

"Please continue to send us your announcements for our email and social media updates on Monday, March 16. Looking forward to seeing you at our next breakfast on April 10."
