Parade, ceremony at Maple Grove, chicken barbecue

Bluffton will observe Memorial Day with traditional events on Monday, May 28.

The Bluffton American Legion Post 382 will hold a parade from the town hall to Maple Grove Cemetery. Line up is 9:15 a.m. and the parade starts at 9:30 a.m.

A 10 a.m. ceremony takes place at 10 a.m. Lt. Ryan Benroth, a 2005 Bluffton High School graduate and 2012 U.S. Naval Academy graduate, is the speaker.

30 youth teams with nearly 750 visitors in town Saturday and Sunday

It’s soccer weekend in Bluffton.

The Bluffton Soccer Club’s American Club two-day tournament will bring 30 youth soccer teams to town, according to Ron Koontz.

The event attracts nearly 750 visitors to the community. Teams compete at four Bluffton University fields (see the map attached). The fields are at the intersection of Bentley Road and Elm Street-Augsburger Road.

Competing team include:
• U12 coed Division 1
• U 12 coed Division 2
• U 12 girls
• U 15 coed Division 1
• U 15 coed Division 2

Has a fire fighter ever made you an ice cream cone?

Your chance for this to happen is from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, May 20, at Bluffton Dari Freeze, according to Billy Marchal.

Members of the Bluffton Volunteer Fire Department will serve customers, taking orders and making cones for a donation to the department.

As an extra event on the night Romick Fire Rescue will offer free train rides to all the youth to attend.

Volunteers needed in several areas - it's all about village cultivation

Bluffton in Bloom, now in its second year, is expanding its scope of awareness in the community.  The committee seeks community volunteers to assist its efforts this year.

Bloom board members are Tom Schmidt, chair, Nancy Benroth, Denise Fett, Becky Ramey and Mark Simmons. Jesse Blackburn, village administrator, is the village liason to the board.

Bluffton in Bloom is affiliated with the national organization “America in Bloom.”
