How many road cuts  – exit and entrances to businesses – on State Route 103 are too many?

Bluffton council’s street and alleys committee grapples with that question this fall. Committee members brought up the subject in the first council meeting in September.

They told the village needs an ordinance to govern access management in certain parts of Bluffton.

Here is early voting information for Allen County.

Polls on election day, Tuesday, Nov. 6, are open from 6:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m.

The last date to register to vote in Ohio or change your voting address or change your name is Tuesday, Oct 9.

Early voting hours at the Board of Elections are:

• 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Wednesday, Oct. 10 through Friday, Oct. 12
Monday, Oct. 15 through Friday, Oct. 19

• 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Monday, Oct. 22 through Friday, Oct. 26

• 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Saturday, Oct. 27

ACT Prep testing will be offered at Bluffton High School this fall, leading up to the Saturday, Dec. 8, testing date.

Eleven two-hour classes are offered on Sundays and Wednesdays by Sylvan Learning Center at BHS. The cost of the program is $100. Contact the high school for additional details.

Several area school districts including Bluffton have received funding for School Safety Training Grants, asccording to State Representative Bob Cupp (R-Lima). The grants are through a provision of Amended Substitute House Bill 318

Blanchard River Watershed receives approval from EPA

The Blanchard River Watershed has received word that the U.S. EPA in Chicago has given their final approval to the nine element non-point source implementation strategy plan (NPS-IS Plan) written for the Marsh Run-Little Riley Creek watershed in Allen County, according to Phil Martin, director of the watershed.

The EPA requires that there be an approved NPS-IS Plan written for each 12-digit HUC watershed before that watershed can receive federal funding. There are 30 HUC-12 watersheds in the Blanchard River Watershed.

Water main project underway

West Elm Street between Rosenberger Drive and Spring Street is now a one-lane street due to water main installation.
The project has two phases.

• Water work phase
October to December –

• Installation of an 8-inch water main, creek crossing, new service lines, new meter settings where required and new fire hydrants.

• Trenches from work performed will be temporarily paved, road is planned to be closed during construction, maintained for local traffic.
