Band camp coming soon to a school near you; BHS band host band for county fair show

Bluffton High School marching band members will prepare for the upcoming football season this month, according to Dave Sycks, director.

Band camp takes place from 7 a.m. to noon each day from Monday, Aug. 14, to Friday, Aug. 18, at the village park.

Bluffton is the host band for this year's Allen County high school marching band show. The band will perform at a 4 p.m. ribbon cutting ceremony opening the fair followed by a performanace in th band show at 7 p.m., on Friday, Aug. 18.

Stop by the center to register your child for the fall

The Bluffton Child Development Center, 325 County Line Road, has openings in its three-year-old classroom starting Monday, Aug. 28, according to Francine Donathan, director.

She invites parents and caregivers to stop by the Center to register children for the fall. Persons wanting more information may call 419-358-8222 or email: [email protected].

July weather was right on the money when it comes to the thermometer. The rain story is a bit different, however.

Guy Verhoff, Pandora weather observer, provides the following weather stats for the month just past.

• Average July 2017 temperature: 73.1 degrees

• Normal average July temperature: 73.2

• July 2017 precipitation: 5.86 inches

• Normal average July precipitation: 3.80 inches

• Maximum July temperature: 88 degrees on July 19

• Minimum July temperature: 54 degrees on July 9

Now the trees are identifed thanks to a Girl Scout troop 20007 project

What’s that tree?

Thanks for the efforts of seven girls in Bluffton Girl Scout Troop 20007 nearly 50 trees in the 20-year-old Village Arboretum are now identified. Gail Clingerman and Sarah Bergstrand are troop leaders who helped with the ambitious project.

Most residents might not even be aware of the arboretum’s existence. But, with the identification project completed, the awareness of the grove and the important part it plays in the community will become more evident over time.

In new location at Bluffton Presbyterian Church

Bluffton Community Preschool will hold a community open house on Monday, Aug.  7, from 6 to 8 p.m. to let the community tour its new location in the Bluffton Presbyterian Church, 112 Main St.

The event is open to the public and refreshments will be served.

The teaching staff will be present to answer questions parents of children may have. Registration forms are available for last minute enrollments.

The staff encourages parents to bring their children to see the new space.
