The Bluffton-Beaverdam-Richland Township United Way has raised $12,096.45 of its $24,000 goal - or 50.4 percent, according to Neil Reichenbach, of the United Way.

The United Way continues to accept contributions. These may be made at Citizens National Bank. Or, Icon viewers may click here for a contribution form.

Bluffton Community Preschool has some remaining spots available for students, Elisha Reineke told the Icon.

Openings are available in the three year-olds Monday and Wednesday afternoon class.

The four year-olds class have openings for both the Tuesday/Thursday morning class as well as the Monday/Wednesday afternoon class.

Morning classes run from 8:05 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. and afternoon classes run from 12:05 p.m. until 2:45 p.m.

Additionally, Elisha reminded parents that Bluffton Community Preschool will be closed for the holiday from Dec. 24 through Jan.4.

 

Robert and Mary Barnett of Bluffton, will celebrate 70 years of marriage Dec. 24, 2012, with a family celebration. 

Robert and the former Mary Marshall were married in 1942 in San Antonio, Texas, where Robert was stationed with the Army Air Corps.

They are the parents of three children:  David (Marilyn) Barnett of Albany, N.Y., Jayne (Dick) McGarrity of Bluffton and Jim (Nancy) Barnett of Syracuse, N.Y.  They have nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. 

What goes up must come down - eventually. Here's a welcome sign on Bluffton's Main Street. This photo shows the sign on the Bluffton Marathon at the corner of Main and College. The price of one gallon of gas dropped below $3 for the first time in, well, a long time. On Dec. 15 the price was slightly above $3, but it changed on Dec. 16. 

Prices in Findlay, for example, were at least 15 cents higher than Bluffton yesterday, so The Icon believes this price is unique to Bluffton.
