The Bluffton High School boys golf team opened its 2023 season with a four-team Northwest Conference match sweep at the Bluffton Golf Course Monday, August 7.

Bluffton finished first with 184 strokes, followed by Leipsic at 191. Spencerville totaled 193 shots, while Ada was last with a total of 229.

Evan Speicher led the Pirates with a nine-hole round of 45 to finish third overall in the match out of 20 players.  

Bluffton’s Ethan Fifer and Nick Lovett were right behind him with identical scores of 46.

Preston Laytart carded a 47. Grady Coonfare and Nate Rayle each posted a total of 50 to round out the Pirate results.

Brevin Brandt of Leipsic was match medalist with a score of 39.

Bluffton is back in action at the Bluffton course vs. Ada Thursday at 4:15 p.m.

COLUMBUS–Fall sports practices and the golf regular-season officially get underway on Monday, July 31, for member schools of the Ohio High School Athletic Association.

This week, football teams are permitted to conduct their five acclimatization days, which include two days in helmets, two days in helmets and shoulder pads, and one day in full pads with no contact. When a student-athlete has completed the five-day acclimatization period, then full contact is permitted.

HEAT ILLNESS PRECAUTIONS
Student-athletes and coaches are reminded to take precautions in hot and humid weather. The greater the humidity, the more difficult it is for the body to cool itself. The air should be tested prior to a practice or competition using a wet bulb, globe, temperature index (WBGT index), which is based on the combined effects of air temperature, relative humidity, radiant heat and air movement.

The launch of the Lounge Sports Network (LSN) and the official game audio broadcast schedule for the 2023 Bluffton Pirates football season has been announced by Lounge Media Group.

Broadcasts will start with the season-opener at home against Benjamin Logan on Friday, August 18; game time is 6:50 p.m.

Looks like Bluffton HIgh School athletes get to go back to school earlier than anyone else. Here's the Fall Sports update from Athletic Director Alex Hannah:

Monday July 24: Mandatory OHSAA Fall Sports/Player Parent Meeting 7pm in Middle School Cafeteria.

Monday July 31: First official practice for 2023. All athletes must have an up to date Physical on Final Forms to practice.

KENTON–The Bluffton Sardines summer swim squad dominated the eight-team West Ohio Aquatic League championship meet with a clean sweep of the three team titles at Kenton Friday and Saturday, July 7-8.

KENTON–The Bluffton Sardines summer swim team sits atop the eight-team West Ohio Aquatic League championship meet after a sunny day one of competition at the Kenton Municipal Pool.

Dominating Bluffton leads the overall standings, as well as the boys and girls team results, over Wapakoneta in each category. 

Overall, Bluffton leads second-place Wapak 1,317 to 1,060 points heading into the second and final day of swimming. Bluffton also leads the second-place Wapak Wave girls after the first day of competition, 578.5-530. The Sardine boys lead the Wapak males, 738.5 to 530. 

The Bluffton boys won three relay races Friday, while the Sardine girls won one relay event. 

Jackson Bowlus also touched first in the 15 and over age group 50 freestyle.

More than 500 swimmers competed on day one of the 41st annual Elks Invitational meet championships. The meet is for swimmers aged 5-18 who are members of a league team.
