The top-seeded Bluffton High School girls soccer team beat local rival Cory-Rawson 5-1 this past Thursday, October 20, in their Div. III sectional final at home.

The Pirate girls (15-2) will host fifth-seeded Mansfield Christian (9-8-2) in the district semifinals Tuesday, October 25 at Steinmetz Field. The game starts at 7:15 p.m.

MC knocked off Milan Edison 5-3 Thursday in their sectional final.

The Bluffton boys soccer team scored all four goals in the second half to defeat upset-minded Milan Edison 4-1 Saturday evening in the Div. II sectional finals at Steinmetz Field.

Visiting Bluffton lost 42-14 at Columbus Grove in the Northwest Conference football season finale Friday night at Clymer Stadium.

Grove reeled off two runs of 21 unanswered points to post the win. CG led 21-0 at halftime, and never led by less than 14 points after the first stanza.

With their third straight loss, the Pirates finished the campaign 5-5 overall. Bluffton ended up 4-3 and fourth in the eight-team NWC after a 4-0 start. The defeat knocked the Pirates out of playoff contention.

Pirate boys 2nd; Essinger qualifies in girls race

Bluffton HIgh School boys swept the top two spots in the Div. III district 2 cross country meet Saturday morning at Columbus Grove, leading to a second-place Pirate team finish.

Bluffton senior Landon Armstrong won the 69-runner race in 16:05, followed in second by classmate Erik Nygaard 4.9 seconds later.

Pirate senior Sam Derstine ended up a strong 11th, followed closely by teammate Liam Jordan in 13th.

The Pandora-Gilboa High School football team was in complete control from the get-go in their season finale, Friday evening October 21.

CINCINNATI–The Bluffton University volleyball team dropped a four-set decision at Mount St. Joseph on Wednesday, Oct. 19. MSJ improved to 18-4 with a perfect 6-0 mark in the Heartland Conference, while Bluffton slipped to 15-8 and 3-3 in the HCAC.

Bluffton stunned The Mount with a 28-26 victory in the lidlifter. However, the home team recovered quickly and sent the Beavers packing with three convincing sets (25-12, 25-12, 25-15) while winning its sixth straight conference match.
