The Ada boys soccer team lost at home 8-2 to state-ranked Northwest Conference rival Bluffton Tuesday night, September 28, at War Memorial Stadium.
The Bulldogs dropped to 3-5-3 overall and 0-2-1 in NWC play with the defeat. The Pirates, 10th in the Div. III state rankings, improved to 8-2 and 3-0 in the NWC with the win.
The six-time defending NWC champion Pirates have won 33 league matches in a row.
Bluffton University senior Dalton Taynor (Troy/Miami East) has been named the Heartland Conference men's soccer Offensive Player of the Week.
Taynor netted three of Bluffton's four goals last week. He scored the only Beaver goal in a 4-1 loss at Wooster on Tuesday and followed that up with two of Bluffton's tallies in a 3-1 win at Moody Bible on Saturday in Chicago. The talented forward finished the week with six points on eight shots and is currently the Heartland Conference leader with nine goals this season.
The Bluffton University women's golf team finished its Heartland Conference championship preparation at Allegheny College in Pennsylvania on Monday, Sept. 27, 2021. Bluffton spent the last three days at the beautiful Country Club of Meadville.
Freshman Allie Waggener (Hilliard/Hilliard Bradley) led the way with an 87 on Monday. She finished (178) the weekend just one tick back from junior Haley Gill (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central) who went 89-88 for a 177.
The Bluffton University women's golf team opened up with a 367 on day one of the Guy and Jeanne Kuhn Memorial. The Beavers stand in 6th place heading into the final round on Monday, September 27.
The Bluffton golf team finished a strong third in the nine-team Northwest Conference championship tournament Friday, Septemberr 24, at Moose Landing Country Club in Ottawa.
Lincolnview beat NWC regular season champ Allen East by 10 strokes, 338-348, to win the league tournament crown.
Bluffton was a close third (349), followed by Columbus Grove (367), Leipsic (368), Delphos Jefferson (385), Ada (411) and Crestview (417). Spencerville did not have a team score.
Visiting Crestview scored three second-half touchdowns to rally past and then stave off Bluffton 21-14 in a Northwest Conference battle Friday night at Harmon Field.
Knight quarterback Carson Hunter rushed for three touchdowns, the third on a 70-yard keeper, to spearhead the winning rally.
The Pirates scored late in the first period and took a 6-0 lead into halftime.
The Knights then reeled off 21 unanswered points after intermission, and the Pirates tallied a late TD to provide the final margin of seven.
