The Bluffton volleyball team lost a close five-setter at home to state-ranked Lincolnview in a Northwest Conference battle Thursday evening, September 30.
The Lady Pirates fell to 10-7 overall and 2-3 in the NWC with the 25-16, 23-25, 25-17, 19-25, 15-12 defeat.
Lincolnview, ranked 16th in the Ohio Div. IV poll, improved to 11-3 overall and 5-0 in the NWC with the hard-fought victory. The teams traded set wins as Lincolnview took the first, third and fifth sets.

The Pirates led 6-0 after one period, but then the Vikings reeled off 28 unanswered points to build an insurmountable cushion. Bluffton tallied a mid-fourth period touchdown to reduce the final margin to 14.
Leipsic quarterback Dillon Niese threw four touchdown passes to pace the victors.
The Bluffton University women's soccer team ejoyed its second consecutive shutout in a 3-0 victory over rival Defiance College in the Heartland Conference opener for both teams. The Beavers improved to 4-4 overall and 1-0 in the HCAC, while Defiance fell to 2-5 on the season. It is the first time Bluffton has posted consecutive shutouts since 2013 when the Beavers routed Andrews and Ohio Christian.
The Bluffton High School golf team finished a strong third out of 13 teams in the Div. III golf sectionals at Sycamore Springs Golf Course Thursday, September 30, to qualify for districts.
Allen East won the sectional crown with a team score of 337. Van Buren was second (341) and Bluffton third (346).
The top three teams and three individuals not on a qualifying team made it to the Div. III district event at Stone Ridge October 7.
The Bluffton University men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Defiance College on a sunny Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2021. The Jackets netted a goal in each half as they improved to 6-6 overall and 1-0 following the Heartland Conference opener. Bluffton slipped to 4-3 and 0-1 in the HCAC.
Edwin Quintana found the upper right corner from 30 yards out in minute 22, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead on Wednesday. When Defiance was whistled for a foul in the box 16 minutes later, penalty kick specialist Maxwell Kennedy (Strongsville) did his thing, knotting the score at 1-1.
