SPENCERVILLE - The Bluffton boys cross country team finished an impressive third out of 15 teams at the Spencerville Invitational Saturday.

Shawnee won the boys black division race team title with 66 points, followed by Ottawa-Glandorf (115) and Bluffton (133).

Pirate sophomore Erik Nygaard finished a strong sixth in the 160-runner field with a time of 17:42.2 to lead Bluffton.

Sophomore Sam Derstine came in 15th in 18:21.5. Senior Elijah Conley ended up 25th in 18:55.4, and classmate Brandon Good was 32nd overall in 19:25.4.

 PERRYSBURG - The visiting Bluffton boys soccer team and highly-ranked Div. I foe Perrysburg battled to a 2-2 tie Thursday night. 

The Pirate record is now 4-0-1. Perrysburg (2-3-2) was ranked sixth in the first Div. I NWOSSCA regional poll last week.    

Bluffton's Collin Oglesbee got the Pirates on the scoreboard first with a goal in the eighth minute via an assist from Jonathan Schriner. 

Perrysburg knotted it 1-1 four minutes later on a penalty kick goal by Gabe Pawlicki.

Bluffton won all 10 sets and captured 60 of the 63 games played

BLUFFTON - The Bluffton girls tennis team dominated visiting Wauseon 5-0 Thursday evening. 

The lopsided win upped the Lady Pirate net record to 3-7 this season. Bluffton won all 10 sets played in the match and captured 60 of the 63 games played.

Bluffton senior Julia Smallcombe won 6-1, 6-0 at first singles.  

Pirate seniors Olivia Barnes whitewashed her second singles opponent 6-0, 6-0.

Classmate Pearl Lewandowski also triumphed at third singles by a 6-0, 6-0 score.

Setter Skyler Scoles dished out 24 assists and added eight digs. Kylie Monday hustled up 13 digs and served one ace. • Sophie Bricker and Cara Young each served one ace

RAWSON - The visiting Bluffton volleyball team swept non-league local rival Cory-Rawson handily Thursday night. 

Bluffton improved to 5-2 with the convincing 25-16, 25-7, 25-11 win.  

Athletic junior Kylie Stackhouse led the Pirate girls with 14 kills and one block. Classmate Taylor Schwab hammered seven kills and added a block. 

Haelynn Bischoff contributed seven kills.

BLUFFTON - The Bluffton girls tennis team lost 5-0 to visiting Elida Wednesday evening. 

The loss dropped the Lady Pirate net record to 2-7 this season.

Pirate freshmen Caitlyn Couch and Brooke Camper fell at second doubles in a tough third-set tiebreaker 4-6, 6-4, 10-6 (tiebreak).

Bluffton senior Julia Smallcombe played a tough three-setter at first singles, winning the first set 6-2 before losing the last two 3-6, 3-6.

The Bluffton junior duo of Libby Frazier and Ellie Nickel lost at first doubles by a 6-4, 6-4 count.

COLUMBUS GROVE - The Bluffton cross country teams competed at the annual 45-team, three-division Columbus Grove Invitational last Saturday. 

The Pirate boys harriers took 11th in the 15-team gray division boys standings with 297 points. Columbus Grove won the boys title with 60 points, followed by Tinora (78) and Anna (82). 

Senior Elijah Conley was the top Pirate runner as he finished 38th, one spot and three seconds ahead of sophomore teammate Sam Derstine.
