The Bluffton Exempted Village School District is currently accepting applications from students interested in attending the school district through open enrollment for the 2018-2019 school year.

Students from any school district in Ohio may apply and enroll in Bluffton Schools tuition free.  Students are admitted on a full-time basis only.

Applications are approved annually on a first come, first served basis and approval is subject to grade level enrollment and educational programs.

When I saw the “Hot air balloon over Bluffton - 1905” that was posted on January 2, I wondered if the story was truly “lost in history.” And were early air balloons really potato shaped? Here’s what I found: This airship could be piloted by Augustus Roy Knabenshue, an aviation pioneer born in 1875 in Lancaster, Ohio.

Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce will hold a Business After Hours event next week.

It is from 5 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 17, at Sycamore Lake Wine Co., 9660 Mayberry Road, Columbus Grove.

Free appetizers are provided by Luke's Bar and Grill. According to Paul Scott of the chamber, the event is a casual gathering with no formal program. Members of the Ada Area Chamber and the Columbus Grove Chamber are also invited to attend.

 

January 15 in Findlay

Bridge Bereavement Services will offer a presentation that focuses on understanding depression in grief on Monday, Jan. 15, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Marathon Auditorium at Blanchard Valley Hospital, 1900 S. Main Street, Findlay.

Topics include: 

 Assisting the bereaved in identifying depression 

 Explaining the difference between feeling and being depressed 

 Coping mechanisms for healthy grief 

Jamie Wilkinson-Franks, MSW, LISW-S, of Stepping Stones Counseling will be presenting, with an opportunity for discussion to follow. 

Tuesday evenings from Jan. 16 to Feb. 13

Apollo Career Center Adult Education will offer a one night a week self- defense class for women this winter. The class will be held every Tuesday night from 6-9 p.m., beginning  Tuesday, Jan. 16,  and ending Feb. 13,  and will be instructed of Sean Neidemire, detective, Lima Police Department
