Late night Jan. 3 robbery at 302 Carryout, Ada

FROM ADA ICON - Ada police seek assistance from Ada residents concerning a robbery late in the evening of Jan. 3 at 302 Carryout.

SAFER (Seeking Aid From Every Resident) ALERT

On Jan. 3, at approximately 11:30 p.m., an unknown white male wearing a dark blue hoodie and dark colored sweat pants robbed the 302 Carryout in Ada, of an undisclosed amount of money.

1955 Bluffton College graduate

Betty Shantz Klassen, 86, died  on Oct. 23, 2017.  Betty was born in Comins Township, Michigan, to Ernest and Letha Shantz.  She grew up in Fairview, Michigan, and worked in her family’s creamery and restaurant businesses from a young age. 

Betty received her Bachelor‘s in Social Work from Bluffton College in 1955. Once her children were in school she earned her Bachelor’s in Education from Kent State University in 1971 and a Master’s from Northern Arizona University in 1985. 

Reported from Bluffton Hospital

The following  births were reported at Bluffton Hospital in December and early January.

Sophomore Libby Schaadt poured in a career high 20 points and Alivia Koenig buried three 3 pointers as Bluffton defeated Kenton 41-30 Tuesday night.  The Pirates improved to 8-3 with the win while the defeat was just the second of the season for Kenton, now 5-2.  COMPLETE STORY AT www.blufftonpirates.com

Event benefits Faith Formation Program

Emmanuel United Church of Christ will hold a Fazoli's spaghetti dinner fundraiser in February.

The dinner is from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 9, at the church, located at 8375 Phillips Road, Bluffton.

The dinner includes spaghetti, salad, breadstick, dessert and a drink. Tickets are available beginning Jan. 12  for $8 each by callling the church office at 419-358-1561.

Proceeds from the dinner benefit the church Faith Formation Program.

Elisabeth Collins, 33, of Bluffton, Ohio, died on Monday, Jan. 1, 2018, at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor, following a 15-week illness.

Elisabeth was born on Sept. 26, 1984, in Bluffton to Daryl and Michelle (Shank) Thompson and they survive in Rawson.

She married Joshua Collins on Aug. 13, 2011, and he survives in Bluffton along with their son Riley Collins.
