Looking for last-minute back-to-school information. Look for further. It's all on The Icon. A meet the teacher for kindergarten to grade five is from 2 to 3 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 26. A PTO elementary meet-and-greet is at 3:05 p.m., Friday, Aug. 26, in the elementary.

The first day of school is Monday, Aug. 26. The first day for kindergarten students is Thursday, Sept. 1.

This year's new Bluffton Blaze of Lights committee is hard at work. With two planning meetings behind it, here's what is set so far. The Blaze of Lights, a program of the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce is Saturday, Nov. 26.

o "Winter Wonderland" is this year's theme. Floats, residences and businesses are encouraged to decorate with that theme in mind.

Dr. R. Emerson Niswander

Dr. R. Emerson Niswander, 97, North Manchester, Ind., died at 12:50 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2011 in Timbercrest Healthcare Center, North Manchester, Ind.

He was born April 2, 1914 at Bluffton, Ohio to Noah & Kate (Stetler) Niswander. On June 8, 1941 he married Evelyn Mullett. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons; Ray Niswander Jr., Worthington, Ohio and Mark Niswander, Mahomet, Ill. Two daughters, Mrs. Clifford (Sue) Myers, Hershey, Pa. and Mrs. Phillip (Jan) Will, Romeoville, Ill. Seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The newsletter tells about the Sept. 22 business showcase, provide information about this year's Blaze of Lights, downtown snowflake sponsorship, September chamber breakfast details and has a September calendar of chamber-related events.

The chamber has 143 member. Membership information is avilable at the chamber's website: www.blufftonchamber.com.

Area businesses' best opportunity to introduce themselves to Bluffton University students is Thursday, Sept. 22. This year's Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce business-university showcase takes place in Marbeck Center from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. that day.

Based on previous showcases up to 25 businesses are expected to participate. Registered businesses will have a table provided. Businesses may provide hand-outs to students and may have separate drawings for prizes during the event. No food giveaways are permitted, but businesses may give away candy.
