The Bluffton University football team struggled to move the ball in a 34-14 loss to Saint Vincent on a windy Saturday, Sept. 11. The Beavers fell to 0-2 after dropping their home opener to the Bearcats. It marked the first-ever meeting between the two schools on the gridiron.

The Bluffton University men's soccer team scored two first half goals but Illinois Tech responded with four tallies en route to the 4-2 win on Saturday, Sept. 11. The Beavers stand 1-1 on the season after a quick trip to Chicago.

Senior Dalton Taynor (Troy/Miami East) found the back of the net in minute 15 and again at the 34:31 mark, giving Bluffton a 2-0 lead over the Scarlet Hawks. Illinois Tech answered back a minute later, cutting the deficit in half and the score stood at 2-1 heading to the break.

The Bluffton University women's golf team kicked off the HCAC Preview with a school-record 346 on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2021, at Legends Golf Club. It also marked the first time in Bluffton women's history that all four scorers shot in the 80s.

The Bluffton cross country teams competed at the 45th annual Bearcat Invitational in Spencerville Saturday morning, September 11.

The Pirate boys finished a strong third in the 13-team Black Division race. Shawnee won with 24 points, followed by Parkway (86) and Bluffton (128).

Bluffton junior Erik Nygaard finished third in the field of 115 runners with a time of 17:21.6.

Pirate junior Sam Derstine was 20th in 19:20.1. Junior Jonah Rehm crossed the line in 32nd place in 19:45.5.

The visiting Bluffton girls soccer team tied Riverdale 1-1 Saturday night, September 11.

The Lady Pirate kickers ran their record to 4-2-1 after the non-league tie. The Lady Falcons moved to 3-3-1 with the draw.

The game was scoreless early into the second half. Bluffton's Riley Eachus made the first goal of the game in the 43rd minute off an assist from Allison Diller.

But a minute later, Riverdale tied it 1-1 on a goal by Lexi Miller. Neither team scored again over the final 36 minutes.

The community is invited to a community picnic provided by Bluffton Presbyterian Church, 112 N Main St., on Sunday, September 19 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. 

The outdoor event will take place on the church lawn. A picnic meal of hotdog or shredded chicken sandwich, chips, veggies, cookie and bottle of water will be available, while supplies last.
