LIMA – Three Bluffton High School boys tennis players qualified for the Port Clinton district with strong showings on day one of the UNOH Div. II sectional tournament on Thursday, May 15 in Lima.
Third-seeded Branson Hilty won two matches Thursday in the singles flight to advance to the semifinals Saturday, and qualify for districts.
Senior Hilty had a first round bye, then beat Ollie Chisholm of St. Marys in the round 16 by a 6-3, 6-2 count.
OTTAWA – The visiting Bluffton High School girls softball team lost to Ottawa-Glandorf 8-6 in the completion of a suspended Div. V sectional final battle on Thursday evening, May 15.
The Pirate girls led 6-4 when the game was suspended by rain Wednesday night. O-G was batting in the home half of the sixth with two outs and the bases loaded when play was stopped.
DOLA__The visiting Bluffton High School baseball team rallied late but came up short 6-4 to tough non-conference foe Hardin Northern on a hot Thursday evening, May 15.
The Pirates fell behind 5-0 early. Each team plated a run in the fifth to maintain the HN lead at 6-1. Bluffton came back to tally three runs in the top of the seventh, but their final at-bat rally came up short.
The Pirates dropped to 11-12 overall with the defeat. The Polar Bears improved to 15-4-1 after the victory.
