Madeline Burghaze hopes to major in biology after high school

Madeline Burghaze is the Bluffton High School January student of the month.

The BHS senior is a member of Spanish Club, Drama Club, National Honor Society and Student Senate. She is involved in the youth group and children's ministry at Ebenezer Mennonite Church and participates in its mission trips.

She was awarded student of the year in Spanish II, Advanced Algebra II, Spanish III and American Government. 

In her spare time she enjoys reading, writing and traveling. After graduation she plans to attend Indiana Wesleyan University and major in Biology.

Lois Kreider, 94, died Friday, Jan. 31, 2019, at her home in North Newton, Kansas.

A memorial service will be at Faith Mennonite Church, Newton, Kansas, on Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 11 a.m. with sharing and lunch following in the fellowship hall. There will be family visitation the previous evening 5-7 p.m., also at the church.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Mennonite Central Committee or to Bluffton University. Contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Kansas 67114.

Bluffton University has announced the dean’s list for the undergraduate students for the fall 2018 term. Students with a GPA of 3.6 or higher are eligible for the dean’s list. Area students on the dean's list follow:

Last week was freezing. This week clouds decended on Bluffton. Our cloudy day resulted in thick clouds of tiny water droplets suspended in the atmosphere at the earth's surface, which obscures visibility. These photos are from a State Route 235 rural area south of Bluffton.
