Faces Transylvania on Saturday

The Bluffton University volleyball team snapped a string of three straight setbacks when it dispatched Hanover College in three sets (26-24, 25-17, 25-21) on Wednesday, Oct. 31.

With the victory over the Panthers, Bluffton is back in familiar territory as the Beavers return to the Heartland Conference semi-final round for the sixth straight season.

Allyse Averesch, third-generation financial planner, joins Bluffton Amerprise office

Allyse Averesch watched the Big Board on Bluffton’s largest Main Street screen (not counting Shannon Theatre) when the Icon arrived for an interview yesterday.

As a consumer and family financial service major at Ohio State where she graduated, it’s natural for her to follow stocks.  That’s because she is an associate with Ameriprise Financial Services.

Late this summer joined the firm of her father, Greg Averesch, whose Ameriprise office is at 147 N. Main St., Suite A. 

Check out the new lighting in the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center, 132 N. Main St. Earlier this week 47 fluorescence lights were replaced with LED lights. The project will save the center $2,000 a year in energy costs, according to Toyna Meyers, center director. Showing one of the LEDs is Gregg Hahn of County Electric, the company that installed the lights.

Gourmet, free range Bowman Landes turkeys

The Dough Hook, Bluffton’s Main Street deli, is taking orders for fresh, never-frozen turkeys for Thanksgiving, according to Marlena Ballinger.

“We are taking orders for Bowman Landes turkeys,” she said. “To guarantee a size, orders are due by Friday, Nov. 9, or to get the closest size available order by Friday, Nov. 16.”

Part 1 - a chat with local composters

Now that the leaves are starting to fall, you can do something other than rake them up, and throw them away: compost them.

Composting is a natural process the breaks down organic materials, such as vegetable scraps or leaves, into nutrient-rich soil.
