Former Bluffton University academic dean

As chair of the Madison Collaborative at James Madison University, Dr. William Hawk, a 1972 Bluffton graduate and native of Lima, Ohio, is heading up a major effort to revive democracy on the Harrisonburg, Va., campus and beyond. The project, with the goal of putting ethical reasoning into action, is structured around Eight Key Questions (8KQ) developed at JMU for evaluating the ethical dimensions of a situation before making a decision.

Her talk, "Legacy of One-Room Schools" will be held in the patio room at Maple Crest, 700 Maple Crest Court, Bluffton. The event is free and open to the public; donations are welcome.

As an elementary school teacher for the Bryan City Schools, Grove enjoyed re-enacting the one-room school experience with her students at area one-room schools.

Visitation Monday, funeral service Tuesday

Esther L. Brauen, 87, died April 5, 2018 at Mercy Health - St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima.

Esther was born June 2, 1930, in Findlay, Ohio, to Eldon and Ada (Hilty) Lugibihl who preceded her in death. On Nov. 6, 1947, she married E. Keith Brauen who survives.  Esther attended Bluffton High School and Lima Technical College where she received an Associates of Nursing degree.

She worked at Celebration of Health with Dr. Terry Chappell for many years before she retired.

This looks like fun. One of the learning activities at the Bluffton Community Preschool involves pebbles, numbers and thinking about math with a duck of all things. Two additional photo in this series demonstration how a student focuses on learning.
