Bluffton High School senior Justin Haggard, today, signed a letter of intent to play men’s tennis at Mount Vernon Nazarene University, in Mount Vernon. 

Justin is the son of Julien and Jenna Haggard. Justin was a District qualifier in 2017. He was also a member of the varsity football team, where he earned 2nd team All-Conference honors.

Justin plans to major in Secondary Education with a focus in Biology. Justin participates in Teens for Christ in Bluffton, and is a member of St. John Mennonite Church, Pandora.

Michael G. Parrish, 63, died Jan. 26, 2018, at his residence. Mike was born April 13, 1954, in Derry, Pennsylvania, to the late Harry and Judith (King) Parrish.  On Aug. 24, 1987 he married Nancy (Hart) Parrish who preceded him in death on Jan. 2.

Mike was a senior field representative for Gillig Corporation.

Survivors include a brother, David (Valerie) of Ankeny, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews. 

Mike was preceded in death by a brother, Jeffery Parrish.

There will be no service or visitation. 

Will renovate building and move to North Main Street

The Et Cetera Shop, Inc., which operates the Et Cetera Shop, Book ReViews, and Ten Thousand Villages, today announced the purchase of the Peerless Glove Factory building at 327 N. Main St.,  Bluffton, according to Arman Habegger chair of the Et Cetera Shop board.

“After some extensive renovation, the Et Cetera Shop retail store will move to the new location that will provide it significantly more space for its operation and may allow for expanded retail offerings,” he said.

If you like working on jigsaw puzzles, the reading room of Musselman Library on the Bluffton University campus has one that will keep you busy. It should be a cinch, since it only has 2,000 pieces.

Registration now underway

Bluffton Family Recreation is accepting registrations for U6 spring soccer and NFL flag football, according to Amy Byers, sports director.

U6 Soccer
Date: April 3 to May 10
Tuesdays and Thursdays 6-7 p.m.
4-to-6-year-old boys and girls
$30 registration fee for members
$60 registration fee for non-members
Deadline to register: March 18

Glendoris L. Van Waning, 91, died Jan. 28, 2018, at Lima Memorial Health System. Glendoris was born April 6, 1926, in Bluffton to the late Loren and Nellie (Wood) Althaus.  On Oct. 28, 1945, she married John W. Van Waning who preceded her in death on Oct. 17, 1988.

Glendoris was a homemaker and was a member of Lafayette United Methodist Church.  She enjoyed going to Lakeside, playing cards and horses.
