Denecker brothers combine for 26 vs. Kenton

Bluffton High School boys' basketball team split its weekend games, losing to Columbus Grove and defeating Kenton.

On Friday, Grove defeated Bluffton 42-39, Grove was led by Caiden Grothaus with 15, the Bulldogs move to 6-13 (NWC 2-5). The Pirates were led by Gabe Denecker with 14, and move to 10-10 (NWC 4-3).

On Saturday, Bluffton defeated Kenton 54-47 in overtime. The Pirates move to 11-10, while the Wildcats move to 12-9 on the season. Gabe Denecker led all scorers tonight with 19, followed by Luke Denecker with 17. Jaron Sharpe led Kenton with 11.

If your last name is Geiger or if you are related to the Geiger's chances are pretty good that you have an ancestor is this group of youngesters.

Elementary calendar full of activities in March

There's no school on Monday to observe President's Day. However, there's lot of events on the February-March calendar in the schools.

Here's an update on activites at the elementary:

Feb. 20  - No School – President’s Day
Feb. 23  - Chinese Drumming Assembly – a.m.
Feb. 24 - Midterms go home with students
Feb. 27 - 5th & 6th Grade Quiz Bowl, 4:30 p.m.–Shawnee MS
Feb 27 -Third Grade (Mrs. Schulte) Lion & Lamb “Culture”, 9 a.m.
Feb. 28  - Third Grade (Mrs. Kingsley) Lion & Lamb “Culture”, 9 a.m.

Proceeds support Community Assistance Program

The first-ever community chili cook-off is Wednesday, Feb. 22, from 5:30-7 p.m. in the Bluffton Middle School Cafetorium. 

Local “chefs” are preparing their favorite chili recipes for the community to judge. A $5 tasting fee includes a sample of each chili and a drink; other items for sale include hot dogs, shredded chicken sandwiches, chips and baked goods. 

All proceeds benefit Bluffton Community Assistance programs.  

The cook-off is planned by the mission committee of Bluffton Presbyterian Church with help from several other congregations. 

Charles (Chuck) Gossard, 61, died Feb. 18, 2017, at Lima Memorial Health System surrounded by his family.

Chuck was born March 29, 1955, in Bluffton, Ohio, to Lewis and Bernice (Crawfis) Gossard who preceded him in death.

Chuck worked at Wilson Football Factory in Ada. He was also a stay at home father.
