The Pandora United Methodist Church will host a free community meal on Wednesday, Aug. 30, at 5:30 p.m.  in the church fellowship hall,108 E. Washington St., Pandora.

The meal this month is provided by Wednesday Witnesses. Menu will be beef and noodles, vegetable, applesauce, dessert and beverage.

On integrity, truth and virtue to Bluffton’s class of 2021

Nathan Whitaker, a six-time “New York Times” bestselling author, will be the featured speaker at 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 29, in the Sommer Center for Health and Fitness Education as Bluffton University welcomes the class of 2021 during its annual Opening Convocation. 

Whitaker has co-written several books with leading sports figures including “Quiet Strength: The Principles, Practices, and Priorities of a Winning Life,” the memoir of Super-Bowl-winning NFL coach Tony Dungy. “Quiet Strength” also served as this year’s summer reading for first-year Bluffton students.

Bridge Bereavement Services is offering a “Sew Many Memories” grief support program on Thursday, Sept. 21 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 30 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Birchaven Village, 15100 Birchaven Lane, Findlay. 

The Sept. 21 session will be for planning purposes and the Sept. 30 session will be used for sewing. This program will offer participants the opportunity to turn their loved one’s clothing into a keepsake.

5 Myles High, a Bluffton-based jazz combo featuring a trumpet, bass, vocals, piano and drums, will perform during this year's Mennonite Memorial Home concert on the lawn ice cream social.

The social, free and open to the public is at 6:30 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 20. It takes place on the back lawn of the Mennonite Home, 410 W. Elm St., Bluffton.

Members of the group are Myles Bowers, trumpet, Sean McNeal, percussion, Krysti Schhey, piano and vocals, and Philip Schey, bass and vocals.

Phill Talavinia talked Bluffton University athletics to the Bluffton Lions Club on Aug. 15. He told members that many students pick a school depending upon what athletics are offered.

He was featured in the current Lions newsletter, which is attached.

Shaping the Future: 2017 Putnam County Ag Tour Aug. 19

The public is invited to see what’s new in farming and water quality monitoring around the county on Saturday, Aug. 19 during “Shaping the Future: 2017 Putnam County Ag Tour.”

The event is free and includes a catered breakfast followed by stops at four locations around the county where you will see and learn about dairy, beef and poultry farming, water quality monitoring and treatment, hydroponic farming and local wine making.

Guests will ride in air conditioned buses from Excursions Trailways for the tour.
