The newest section the Bluffton pathway system will be dedicated at 4 p.m., Monday, Oct. 31, at the entrance of the new path on Augsburger Road near the Bluffton University athletic complex.

The $244,000 Lions Way-Augsburger Road pedestrian and bike path project was completed earlier this week as the final layer of asphalt was applied on Oct. 23.

The pathway connects Elm Street to the Riverbend residential housing development and Maple Crest retirement community. The path removes bikers, joggers and pedestrians from the busy Augsburger Road.

#IChooseBluffton. Towns like our's don’t happen by accident.

The hashtag and catch phrase is a new project of the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce, according to Gen Akroyd, chamber director. And, she adds that the chamber encourages Bluffton businesses and residents to start using it.

She told the Icon: “The #IChooseBluffton Challenge is simple. Think about where your needs can be met locally before seeking them outside the community.”

Luz Varela is overworked, stressed and tired. But she’s also angry, and she wouldn’t have it any other way. Varela, a 2015 graduate of Bluffton University, is working as a legal assistant at the Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services (RAICES).
 

Youngsters at Bluffton Child Development Center have way too much fun. Here, two youths, decide that taking a tumble is the best way to spend the afternoon. Looks like fun and it is fun.

Emmanuel United Church of Christ will hold a fish fry from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 11, at the church located at 8375 Phillips Road.

The all-you-can-eat fish fry includes: potato salad, calico beans, baked beans, cole slaw, cranberry salad, taco salad, broccoli salad, layer salad, perfection salad, macaroni salad, apple salad, green bean casserole, hot cheese potatoes, pickled eggs, macaroni and cheese, cherry dessert, cakes, cookies, pie and mixed fruit.

Tickets are $8 for adults and childen 10 and under $4.

Members of the Bluffton University Social Work Club will go trick-or-canning during Bluffton’s trick-or-treat festivities.

Social Work majors will be going door to door asking for donations of canned foods, dried foods and hygiene products from 6-8:30 p.m. on  Thursday, Oct. 27.
