The Bluffton Middle School will host its annual Night at the Museum on Monday, May 1, from 6-7 p.m., in the cafetorium. All are welcome to attend.
Sixth grade students have chosen a country to display and show its culture. Seventh grade students have chosen a famous person to display and share why that person is famously remembered. Eighth grade students have chosen a career of their interest to research and display.
Bluffton University recently held its eighth annual Cabaret for a Cause. The semi-formal event for undergraduates features student performances of songs from a wide genre of musical styles.
Each year a different organization is selected to receive the proceeds from ticket sales. This year, a donation of $1,300 was given to Camp Invention, a program of the National Inventors Hall of Fame.
Transition Bluffton hosts a river walk along the Little Riley on Sunday, April 23. Naturalist Anne Coburn-Griffis will lead the walk exploring plant and animal life in the Motter Metro Park just outside of Bluffton.
The walk will start at 6 p.m. and last 1-1.5 hours. Walkers will explore park trails and be introduced to creatures that make their home in and along the Little Riley. Participants will need good walking shoes and should bring binoculars and magnifying lenses.
Carrol M, Reichenbach, 92, died April 12, 2017, at Bluffton Hospital. Carrol was born April 1, 1925, in Rockford, Ohio, to the late Russell and Elverda (Mack) Goodwin. On Jan. 14, 1955, she married Robert Reichenbach who preceded her in death on Jan. 19, 2015.
She had been a cashier at Newberry's in Lima and later at the Beaverdam Truck Stop. Carrol was a 4-H Advisor and was active in the Bluffton Music Boosters while her children were in school. She was a member of the Emmanuel United Church of Christ in Bluffton where she had been a Sunday School teacher.
Claire Clay ’18, a public relations major from Van Wert, Ohio, was named the winner of Bluffton University’s annual C. Henry Smith Peace Oratorical Contest on March 29. Clay’s speech, “Social Media and Conflict: Eradicating Online Drama through Compassion and Peacemaking,” shed light on the recent increase of violence on social media. She explained how conflict arises from conversations on social media networks and how individuals can transform conflict found on those sites into peaceful online communities.
The Hancock Park District (HPD) is facilitating a series of self-guided float trips with HPD Shuttle Service this spring that cover approximately 37.6 miles of the Blanchard River from Blanchard River Nature Preserve to Blanchard Landing. Cost is $20 per person, per trip, and preregistration is necessary.
