Bluffton artist Judith Greavu, associate professor emeritus in art at Ohio Northern, is the winner of the 2016–17 Ocala, Florida, Outdoor Sculpture Competition.

Her winning sculpture, titled “Tri Bio, was installed last week in Tuscawilla Park in Ocala.

The competition received over 100 entries from across North America. A selection jury comprised of local community and art organization representatives selected only 10 artists to advance in the competition and travel to Tuscawilla Park for a 20-month exhibit in honor of the park’s centennial anniversary.

A powerful speaker, who made a meaningful impact on students, faculty and staff members in January, will return to campus in May as the 2016 Bluffton University commencement speaker. President James Harder announced during Monday’s Faculty meeting that Sarah Thompson, executive director of Christian Peacemaker Teams, will address the graduating class during the May 8 ceremony in the Sommer Center. 

Janette Reineke, author of Fear No Art! You Can Do It!, will be doing an Assemblage Art Workshop at the Bluffton Public Library on Monday, February 29 at 6:00 p.m.  Attendees will learn about artist Louise Nevelson and the assemblage art for which she is known, and then have the opportunity to create their own assemblage art from wooden pieces.
 
Registration is required by Friday, February 19 to attend this program. There is a $10 supply fee due at time of registration (Cash only, please-- nonrefundable after February 19.)

Two Forums will be offered on March 1 at Bluffton University. Dr. Sheila Collins, Director of Wing & A Prayer Pittsburgh Players, will present her speech titled, “Overcoming Loss: Keys to a Resilient Recovery,” at 11 a.m. in Yoder Recital Hall. 
 
She will explore the resources needed for graceful transition following significant losses, whether of an opportunity, a job or your own health.  This is the 2016 Smucker Lecture.
 

State Representative Bob Cupp (R-Allen County) announced information regarding the application process for the Local Government Safety Capital Grant.
 
Initiated by the Ohio House of Representatives - and funded via the state operating budget for fiscal years 2016-2017 - these grants are intended to help fund public safety projects in local communities throughout Ohio, including those in Allen County.
 

George Lehman will speak at the noon, Tuesday, March 1, Bluffton Lions Club meeting. His talk title is "Is Collaboration the New Competitive Advantage?"

On March 15 Perry Bush will speak on "Rust Belt Resistance," the story of Lima. Lions met in the Bluffton town hall.
