Nearly 800 people gathered in a wheat field between Bluffton and Pandora, on Sunday, Aug. 30, 2015, to celebrate the establishment of the first Mennonite church in what came to be known as the Swiss Settlement.

The worshippers in that original log building grew in number, later dividing into four churches that flourish today: Ebenezer Mennonite and First Mennonite of Bluffton, Grace Mennonite and St. John Mennonite of Pandora.

The Pandora United Methodist Church will be hold a free community meal on Wednesday, Sept. 30 from 5:30-7 p.m.. In the church fellowship hall, 108 E. Washington Street, Pandora. The meal this month is provided by the Rebecca Circle  and  the menu is ham, scalloped potatoes, corn, dessert and beverage.

BLUFFTON, Ohio -The Bluffton women’s soccer team finished off a thrilling victory behind a buzzer-beating goal from Brittany Huff (Union/Northmont) to earn a positive 3-2 result on Wednesday, Sept. 9. The win pushed the Beavers to 2-1 on the young season, while the Purple Raiders fell to 1-3.

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University men’s soccer team could not overcome the Mount Union Purple Raiders on Wednesday, Sept. 9, as they fell by a 3-1 count. The Beavers dipped to 0-3 while Mount Union garnered its first win of the season to improve to 1-1.

Matthew Spallinger, a 2013 graduate of Bluffton High School and a 2015 graduate of the University of  Rio Grande, took first place for his Highboy Dresser in the Case Goods category in the Association of Woodworking Furnishings & Suppliers (AWFS) Fresh Wood competition for North American students considering a career in woodworking held in Las Vegas. A Van Wert couple has purchased the Touch of Sun Tanning, 324 N. Main St., and it is now open for business.

Christopher and JJ Joseph are the new owners and the business is renamed JJ’s Touch of Sun Tanning. Joy Duden is the manager of the store.

JJ’s Touch of Sun Tanning offers Level I and Level II tanning beds. In addition, a stand-up tanning bed will be added soon. In addition to tanning, the business carries a lotion bar and offers Hempz and Australian Gold products.
