Bluffton Family Recreation is taking registrations for its two six-week fall program sessions for youngsters.

Session I begins the third week of September and continues until Friday, Oct. 28.
Session 2 begins Sunday, Nov. 6 and continues until Friday, Dec. 16. Parents may register children for either or both sessions now.

Helen E. Driver, 99, died at 2:35 a.m., Aug. 14, 2016, at Bluffton Hospital.

Helen was born Sept. 16, 1916, in Allen County to Russell and Edith (Brenneman) Wolfe, who preceded her in death. On Oct. 13, 1940, she married Marion J. Driver who died on Sept. 22, 1997.

That's right...it's time to pick up schedules for the coming school year. Schedule pick ups are Friday, Aug. 19, and Monday, Aug. 22.

Bluffton council will be updated on work at the Bluffton Airport on Monday.

Jamie Mehaffie, village administrator, has received a quote from Nonnemaker Asphalt Sealcoating of Columbus Grove to seal the asphalt at the airport.

The Airport Commission intends to paint a compass rose on the airport apron. The asphalt needs to be sealed before the compass is put in place.

Bluffton school board hopes to put on the final touches in preparation for the coming school year on Monday night.

The board will act on several coaching supplemental contracts and substitute teacher contracts.

Also on the agenda, the board will act on accepting the resignation of Emily Kriegel, teacher, who accepted a contract in July.

The August board agenda is an attachment at the bottom of this story.

Carlin Carpenter will talk about and sign copies of his book "Coaching Football Ain't Easy," at Book ReViews, 123 S. Main St., on Saturday.

He will be in the store from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The book's  subtitle “My Triumphs and Tribulations at Bluffton College.”

One tribulation that morphed into a triumph is represented in the book’s cover photograph. There, Carpenter is lying on the football field, refusing to stand up, while a football referee threatens to boot him from the game.
