Dr. Matthew Friesen, Bluffton University’s new assistant professor of sociology, will discuss his recently completed doctoral dissertation and a related research method in a Bluffton colloquium on Friday, Feb. 27.

His presentation on "Movements, Majors and Networks, Oh My!  A Snapshot of Social Network Analysis Software and Research Applications" will begin at 4 p.m. in Stutzman Lecture Hall in Centennial Hall. It is free and open to the public.

Multiple kinds of soups, homemade bread and desserts will be available during the annual soup lunch benefit at Pleasant View United Methodist Church, Bluffton. Serving will be Sunday, March 1, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Donations will benefit a prom to honor those with special needs and disabilities for ages 16 and over. This is a ministry of former Pleasant View member Shane Geisheimer. The church is located at 300 Township Road 37, north of Bluffton. All are welcome. Cost is by donation.

Bluffton author, Ashley Pearson, will have a book signing on Saturday, Feb. 28, at Book ReViews, 123 S. Main St., for her recently published children’s book “Little Gracie’s Daily Adventure,” according to Dr. Christina Walton, store manager.

The signing is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Book ReViews.

Pearson is a Bluffton High School graduate. She worked in the Findlay Hancock County Public Library circulation area for six years where she was exposed to many genres of books.

Nicholas J. “Nick” Pieraccini, 43, died on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2015, at 2:13 p.m. at Lima Memorial Health System, Lima.

He was born on December 27, 1971, in Lima, Ohio to Nicholas and Nancy (Pellegrini) Pieraccini and they preceded him in death. On June 29, 2002, Nick married Glenna Rowe and she survives in Alger.

He was a 1991 graduate of Elida High School. He was an associate at DTR Industries, Bluffton.

The second mid-week Lenten service at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Jenera, will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. Vicar Bryant Laude from Immanuel Lutheran Church in Findlay, (grandson of former Trinity Pastor Donald Laude), will preach on “If One Dies, it Produces Life for Many.” 

The choir will sing “Were You There.”  A light supper will be served from 5:30-6:30 p.m.  The church is at 301 North Main Street, Jenera, and is handicapped accessible.  All are welcome.
