2014 will be remembered for several things, but the thing most area residents will remember is the “Winter of 2014.”

Guy Verhoff, Pandora weather observer, provided The Icon with the 2014 summary with comparisons back to 2006.

Here’s some of the 2014 weather highlights:
• Snowfall recorded at 59.7 inches was more than 22 inches higher than the yearly normal average of 37.10 inches.

• The 2014 average temperature of 48.1 degrees was below the 50.3 degree yearly average temperature.

Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce members will hear about the centennial of the Dixie Highway in 2015 from Bluffton area resident Scott Little. 

The route of the Dixie Highway is Main Street in Bluffton and much of the village’s rich history has been closely connected to this most historic route.

The holidays ended and a blah Sunday set in.

The only thing we can think to do in a situation like this is to bake. But what? With the Duke Ellington Orchestra playing in the background, in my attempt to inspire creativity, we blindly took one of the bread books off the shelf.

Here’s what opened: We’ll call it “Miniature Icon Benne Biscuits.”

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University women continued their winning ways as they returned to conference play with a 58-46 victory over the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Saturday, Jan. 3. The Beavers earned the victory despite shooting only 35.1 percent from the floor and 60.9 percent from the charity stripe. Bluffton improved to 8-3 and 3-1 in HCAC play while Rose-Hulman fell to 6-5 and 2-2, respectively.

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University men welcomed Rose-Hulman for a Heartland Conference bout on Saturday, Jan. 3, in the first game of 2015. The Engineers stifled the Beavers in a hard fought game, 62-53, using height to their advantage, getting 38 of their points on the inside. The Beavers fell to 6-5 with a 2-2 mark in the HCAC, while the Engineers improved to 7-4 overall, including 3-1 in conference play. 

Larry Smith of Smith’s Realty Professionals, 147 N. Main St., Bluffton, announces a new residential listing. The listing is at 307 S. Main St., Bluffton. The residence has two bedrooms and one bath. Its list price is $109,900.
