Bridge Bereavement Services will offer a workshop for understanding grief on Tuesday, Jan. 6, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. in the second floor conference room at Bluffton Hospital, 139 Garau St., Bluffton. The event is for individuals 18 years of age and older and is open to the public.

This three-hour workshop will help participants learn more about the grief process including how to identify essential physical, emotional, cognitive, social and spiritual actions that will aid in healing.

With gas at $1.85.9 cents per gallon, it will be a happy new year in Bluffton. At these prices is costs only $27.90 to fill a 15-gallon tank. When gas cost $3.85 the cost to fill a 15-gallon tank totaled $57.75. The Icon asks out-of-town viewers to update us on the cost of a gallon per gas where you live.

Following the passage of the extenders legislation, the Internal Revenue Service announced today it anticipates opening the 2015 filing season as scheduled in January.

The IRS will begin accepting tax returns electronically on Jan. 20. Paper tax returns will begin processing at the same time.

The decision follows Congress renewing a number of "extender" provisions of the tax law that expired at the end of 2013. These provisions were renewed by Congress through the end of 2014. The final legislation was signed into law Dec. 19, 2014.

Six Bluffton High School students are winners in the 2014 Bluffton American Legion Post 382 Americanism competition.

Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 301 North Main Street, Jenera, will hold a New Year’s Eve service at 7 p.m., with Pastor Jeff Bolwerk leading  under the theme "God’s Word and His Salvation Will Last Forever.”  A New Year's Day service will begin at 9:30 a.m., with the theme of “Faith in Christ Makes All Things Truly New.”  Worship will be led by Pastor Al Schmitzer.  Everyone is welcome to attend.

BLUFFTON, Ohio - Despite a late first half run, the Bluffton University women's basketball team came up short of a victory on Sunday, Dec. 28, as they fell to the Albion College Britons, 80-73, in the semifinals of the McDonald’s Holiday Tournament. The early contest was won by Denison as the Big Red defeated Muskingum 71-63. The Britons improved to 7-3 on the season while the Beavers fell to 6-3.
