Bluffton High School Football Moms invite community groups to join the 2015 BHS homecoming parade on Friday, Oct. 2.

The parade gathers at The Centre on North Main Street at 5 p.m., and will start at 5:30 p.m. The parade starts at The Centre, heads south on Main, to College Avenue, and on to Harmon Field.

Rhonda Staley said, "We are looking for groups, organizations, and churches to be a part of this year's parade. Floats and vehicles supporting the community are invited.

Polished Nail and Body Salon, 415 N. Main St., will hold a "Rock the Tan!" party from 7 to 11 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, according to Joan Frederick.

During the special hours you can stop in and tan for only $1. In addition, you may enter to win one month tanning, Mystic tans and lotions.

Challenged Champions Equestrian Center, 11913 Road 6, Ottawa, invites persons to volunteer for the fall session, now underway.

Volunteers are needed for classes held Mondays-Thursday evenings and Wednesday-Friday mornings. No horse experience is necessary.

How can a guy from a place called Zelienople have so many friends in a place called Bluffton?

That guy, let’s call him “The Donald”  - he would have thought it funny -   showed up here about the time Nixon was in the White House. He never left.

Imagine - he was hired to serve as the disciplinarian to rowdy Bluffton College students. A thankless job. But, somebody had to do it.

Donald Lee Schweingruber, 75, of Bluffton, died Saturday, Sept. 12. Don had been living with multiple myeloma for the past 15 years and was in hospice care when he died.

Don was born April 4, 1940, in Ellwood City, Pa., to Russell and Dorothy Schweingruber and grew up on a farm in Butler County. He graduated from Zelienople High School in 1958 and Thiel College in 1963. He continued his education at Miami University, where he met Nancy Hoeltje. They married in 1965.
