Former Bluffton teacher will head Hicksville schools

Former Bluffton resident and teacher in the Bluffton school system, Jesse Steiner accepted an offer of a three-year contract as superintendent of Hicksville Exempted Village Schools earlier this week.

He replaces Dr. Kevin Miller, who has accepted the superintendent position at Ottawa Hills. Steiner's contract runs from Aug. 1-July 31, 2013.

August full of activities at Maple Crest

The August calendar at Maple Crest is full of activities. Some of the highlights follow:

Aug. 15 - The Ed Zickafoose Band will perform at the Mennonite Memorial Home concert on the lawn. The event is for the entire Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio community. Included in the music will be ice cream sundaes. The event is from 7 to 8 p.m.

Aug. 17 - The Bakers' Group will meet at 3:30 p.m. in the Orchard Dining Room. The plan is to make a special team for the Men's Group.

Three persons became residents of Maple Crest this summer. They include Helen Beach, Adah Lehman and Alpha Smallwood.

Maple Crest will recognize its residents and staff with August birthdys on Aug 6. The party is in the Rose Room at 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 6. August birthdays are:

Maple Crest family picnic Aug. 10

Maple Crest residents will hold their summer family picnic in August. The event is at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 10, in the Patio Room at Maple Crest.

Families are asked to bring a dessert to share. The main meal, drinks and table service will be provided by Maple Crest. Reservations are needed by Tuesday. Aug. 2.

Aug. 3 Primetimers will learn about herbs

Anne Boyd of the Herb Society will talk on medicinal herbs and herbs for cooking at the August Primtimers meeting. The event is at noon, Tuesday, Aug. 3, at St. John Mennonite Church, Pandora. Primetimers is a program for senior citizens and is open to the public.
