Jane Geiger Parati grew up in Bluffton
Jane Anne Geiger Parati of Ashfield, Mass., formerly of Charlotte, N.C., died on Oct. 15, 2012. She was born in Bluffton and her parents were Frederick Steiner Geiger and Doris Stultz Geiger.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Robert Parati, daughter Nan Parati, both of Ashfield, daughter, Chris Parati Roseman and husband, William, of Concord, N.C., son, Tim Parati, of Charlotte, and son, Jon Parati, and wife, Lingyun of Woodinville, Washington. Grandchildren are Elyse and Micki Roseman of Concord and Giovanni and Asia Parati of Woodinville.
Jane was born in Bluffton, Ohio, and spent her early years in Bluffton and Green Springs, Ohio. She attended Ohio Northern University and taught first grade several years before visiting a friend in Charlotte in March 1953.
She taught first grade at Ascension Lutheran Day School for several years where she met her husband Robert. Married in 1954, they made their home on Murrayhill Road where they stayed for almost 50 years.
After the children were grown, she joined her husband at Parati Advertising until they both retired and took to the road, camping across the United States for three years. She volunteered at Charlotte’s Presbyterian Hospital before retiring to move to the country.
She was active in the anti-war movement during the Vietnam War, the Civil Rights and Women’s Movements and worked hard for rights and peace for everyone.
At her request, memorials may be made to the Public Library or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
