Chamber announces inclusive Residential Lights Competition
MEDIA RELEASE__The Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the return of the Residential Lights Competition, with a more inclusive format designed to celebrate the many beautifully decorated homes throughout the Bluffton community.
In previous years, residents were required to register to be included in the competition. However, Chamber leaders noticed that many of Bluffton’s most festive homes were never officially entered. There are so many beautifully decorated homes in Bluffton, and many do not register for the competition.
“This year, we wanted to make sure that everyone who helps light up Bluffton during the Christmas season has a chance to be recognized,” said Jim Enneking, Executive Director of the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce. “By removing the registration requirement, we’re opening the competition to all decorated homes within the village limits.”
No registration required
For the upcoming season, every decorated residential property within the Village of Bluffton limits will be automatically eligible for the Residential Lights Competition. No signup, no forms — residents simply decorate their homes and keep their lights on during the judging period.
The Chamber also encourages residents to have their decorations up by the Blaze of Lights on November 29, 2025, helping to create a festive atmosphere for this signature Bluffton event and throughout the holiday season.
The Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors will again serve as the judging panel. Judging will take place in early December, and criteria may include overall holiday spirit, creativity, use of lights and decorations, and curb appeal.
Awards, yard signs and prizes
The competition will feature four awards:
- 1st Place – Commemorative yard sign + $100 gift card
- 2nd Place – Commemorative yard sign + $75 gift card
- 3rd Place – Commemorative yard sign + $50 gift card
- Mayor’s Choice – Commemorative yard sign + $100 gift card
Each winner will receive a yard sign to display throughout the Christmas season. After the holidays, the Chamber will collect the signs so they can be used again in future years.
“We’re pleased to continue the tradition of the Mayor’s Choice award,” said Enneking. “It’s a fun way to highlight a home that truly captures the spirit of Christmas in Bluffton.”
Judging and Announcement of Winners
Judging will occur in early December. Winners will be announced on the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce website, social media channels, and the Bluffton Icon.
Celebrating Community Spirit
“The Residential Lights Competition is about more than just awards,” said Rene Gabriel, Assistant Director for the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce. “It’s about community pride, hospitality, and the joy of the Christmas season. When Bluffton lights up, our whole community benefits — from residents to visitors and local businesses.”
