Keeney Peace Lecture examines Anabaptist pacifism and sovereignty
MEDIA RELEASE__ Dr. Jonathan Moyer, associate professor at the Josef Korbel School of International Studies and director of the Frederick S. Pardee Center for International Futures at the University of Denver, will present the Keeney Peace Lecture at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 3, in Yoder Recital Hall.
Moyer’s lecture, “Anabaptist Pacifism and the Problem of Sovereignty,” will explore the foundational tension between Anabaptist peace principles and an international system defined by national sovereignty and the monopoly on the legitimate use of violence.
Bluffton’s Keeney Peace Lectureship was established in 1978 by the family of William Sr. and Kathryn Keeney to express appreciation for Bluffton’s influence and to strengthen the continuing peace witness among the community.
The lecture is free and open to the public.
