Obituaries

James "Jim" Dean Badertscher, 82, died April 8, 2016, at 2:15 p.m. at Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton.  Jim was born July 17, 1933, in Bluffton to the late Edwin and Mae (Murray) Badertscher.  On July 18, 1959, he married Ruth Hankish Badertscher who survives.

Jim retired from Lima Ford Engine Plant after 20 years.  He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ and attended St. Mary's Catholic Church both of Bluffton.  Jim was a member of American Legion Post #382, Bluffton, graduated from Bluffton High School, attended Bluffton College and was a U.S. Army veteran. 

Byron “Barney” Spallinger, died Thursday, March 31, 2016, at Grand View Hospital. He was the husband of the late Arlene (Reiff) Spallinger who died in 2008.

Born Jan. 19, 1928, in Beaverdam, Ohio he was the son of the late Homer and Elizabeth (Augsburger) Spallinger. Mr. Spallinger was a graduate of Beaverdam High School.

Claralice Hanna Wolf died on March 30, 2016. Claralice was born in Lampang, Thailand, on March 4, 1921, to Loren Stanley Hanna and Hazel Brunner Hanna, both of California. Both parents served as life-long missionaries in Thailand.

Claralice was educated at Kodaikanal International School in Tamil Nadu, India, and at Wheaton Academy and Wheaton College in Illinois, graduating in 1943. While a first-year student at Wheaton College she met Carl Wolf and abandoned her plan to become a medical missionary in favor of life as a minister’s wife. She and Carl were married in August 1943.

Julia A. Luginbill, 83, of Columbus Grove died March 31, 2016, at 12:50 a.m. at the Hilty Memorial Home, Pandora.  Julia was born July 16, 1932, in Lima to the late Floyd and Margaret Griffith Sandy. On Oct. 25, 1953, she married Kenneth Luginbill and he preceded her in death on Aug. 5, 2002.
 

Claralice H. Wolf, 95 ,of Bluffton died March 30, 2016, at Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton.  Arrangements are incomplete at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton.

Dan Maynard Gleason, 76, died March 28, 2016, at 6:04 a.m. at the Cleveland Clinic.  Dan was born May 21, 1939 in Bluffton to the late Clarence Michael and Mildred (Zahrend) Gleason.  On August 31, 1958 he married Jean Arnold Gleason who survives.

Dan was a heavy equipment operator for Degan Excavating.  He was a member of the Ohio Operating Engineers.  He was a member of the Pleasant View United Church of the Brethren, Lima, where he was a board member, deacon, treasurer and Sunday School superintendent.
