The Bluffton University volleyball team took the long road to downing Manchester in five sets on Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2021. Bluffton improved to 9-12 overall and 1-1 in the Heartland Conference after trailing 2-0 at North Manchester.
The visitors dropped the first two sets 25-16 and 25-19. A 25-21 victory in the third gave Bluffton hope and after a 27-25 overtime win in the fourth, the Beavers got their mojo back. Bluffton rolled to a big lead in the clincher and capped off the night with a 15-11 margin to claim the match.
The Bluffton University women's soccer team found itself on the wrong end of a 7-0 final score at Mount St. Joseph on Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2021. Bluffton dipped to 4-6 overall and 1-2 in the Heartland Conference, while MSJ improved to 6-7 with a perfect 3-0 mark in conference play.
The home team scored three goals in a 10-minute span midway through the first half and never looked back as the Lions tacked on four more tallies in the second stanza. McKenzie Schneeman made her case for HCAC Player of the Week with four straight goals on Wednesday under the lights.
The defending NWC champion Pirate girls fell to 10-3-1 overall and 4-1 in the NWC with the defeat. It was the first loss for Bluffton in its last 10 matches.
CG improved to 10-1-1 overall and took sole possession of first place in the NWC, clinching at least a share of the crown with the win.
The visiting Bluffton volleyball team defeated Spencerville 3-1 in a Northwest Conference match Tuesday evening, October 5.
The Lady Pirate record improved to 12-7 overall and 3-3 in the NWC with the 27-25, 26-28, 25-13, 25-14 victory.
The Bearcats fell to 10-7 overall and 1-5 in the NWC with the defeat.
Senior Kylie Stackhouse topped Bluffton with 26 kills and two blocks. She also served up a pair of aces. Freshman Ayla Grandey contributed seven kills and one block.
Senior setter Skyler Scoles passed out 39 assists and added a block to go with nine digs.

On Friday afternoon, Oct. 1, the Beavers cross country team didn't have to travel far from home to race at the Seneca East Golf Course in Tiffin for the 2021 Tiffelberg Open. The flat course made for a fast race and impressive times.
The meet was kicked off with the Men's 8k competition on Friday. Leading the Beavers was sophomore Alex Montross (Perrysburg) in 37th place with a time of 28:48, followed by freshman Cole Kropka (New London) in 29:48 and freshman Braeden Horn (Galion) with a time of 30:20.
