Number 1 singles Erin Hotmire improves to 2-1

KENTON - The Bluffton girls tennis team won its first match of the season convincingly at Kenton Thursday by a 4-1 score.

The victory lifted the Lady Pirate record to 1-2. All four Bluffton victories came in straight sets, including wins in all three singles matches.

Senior Erin Hotmire improved her record to 2-1 with a 6-2, 6-2 win at first singles over Kenton's Mykaela Schriber.

Kayla White tallied a goal two minutes before halftime

BLUFFTON - Visiting Ottawa-Glandorf led 2-1 at halftime and went on to defeat the Bluffton girls soccer team 4-1 in the season opener Saturday.

O-G's Clara Beach netted two goals 15 minutes apart bridging the first and second halves to give the visitors a 3-1 lead.

Bluffton's Kayla White tallied a goal two minutes before halftime to bring the hosts within 2-1 at intermission.

Yet 10 minutes after Beach's second goal, Titan Ella Okuley scored in the 61st minute to put the game out of reach.

Jude Spallinger paces BHS with 3 goals

PETTISVILLE - The perennial power Bluffton boys soccer team shut out Pettisville in its opener on the road Saturday, 5-0.

Jude Spallinger netted three goals to pace the Pirate offense.

The Bluffton goals were netted by: Tayton Klemen (5th minute); Spallinger (10'), (38'), and (58'); and Brandon Good (25').

Blufton fired 30 shots, 19 of which were on goal. Pettisville made 14 saves, and did not manage a single shot against the stingy Pirate defense.

 

OHSAA girls basketball tournament in 2020 and boys basketball in 2021

The Ohio High School Athletic Association has announced that two upcoming basketball state tournaments will return to St. John Arena at The Ohio State University, including the 2020 girls basketball state tournament and the 2021 boys basketball state tournament.

Both state tournaments coincide with OSU’s spring break, which will allow for better parking options for spectators.

Pirates win rugged four-team NWC meet

The Bluffton golf team won a rugged four-team Northwest Conference meet Tuesday at the Bluffton Golf Course.

Bluffton and Allen East tied with 179 strokes each, followed by Paulding (190) and Ada (209). The Pirates won the tiebreaker with AE after both teams' fifth man shot 51 since Pirate Wes Brauen shot a 64 in the sixth spot.

Visiting Shawnee spoiled the Bluffton girls tennis home opener Tuesday by shutting out the Lady Pirates 5-0 Tuesday.

Erin Hotmire was the only Pirate to come close to winning as she lost 6-4, 6-3 at first singles to Aria Patel.

Shawnee won three of the other four matches 6-0, 6-0. Bluffton's Ellie Nickel and Libby Frazier lost 6-1, 6-1 at second doubles.

The Lady Pirate netters are now 0-2 this season.
