Today's BHS senior spotlight

Here's today's installment of the Bluffton High School Class of 2020 Senior Spotlight. Each weekday until the end of May the Icon will feature photos and future plans for four BHS seniors.  Students will be featured in a four-set random order. Information about the students is provided by the Bluffton schools.

Rhodes State Police Academy accepting applications

The Rhodes State Police Academy is accepting applications for its Fall full-time Academy. 

Academy classes are scheduled to begin on Monday, Aug. 17, and will run from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday with some Saturday and Sunday sessions ending in mid-January.

Bluffton schools will not conclude 2019-20 school year early

Closing early goes against ODE advice

Bluffton schools will not conclude the 2019-20 school year early, according to Greg Denecker, superintendent.

In a letter to parents and students posted on the school website, Denecker writes that some schools are ending the school year early, but not Bluffton. 

He states that decisions such as these (ending the school year early) are directly against what the Ohio Department of Education has advised schools to do with their academic calendars.

The way Bluffton votes could change in November

"I think this is something that Ohioans rightfully expect from their government leaders," says Ohio secretary of state

The way Bluffton votes may be different in November than in previous general elections.

Ohio Secretary of State, Frank LaRose, said today that Ohio needs to take the application process for mail-in ballots online, agree to pay postage on return applications and ballots and make other voting-law changes in order to assure a smooth presidential election in November.

LaRose’s proposed changes would:

• Allow online requests for a vote-by-mail ballot, rather than requiring a form to be printed off from the internet or requested by phone;

West central Ohio virtual prom Saturday

DJLimaOhio.com.com has teamed up with Ohio Theatre and Woof Boom Lima radio stations to help take the sting out of the school year shut down for area high school juniors and seniors. 

“A Night to Remember,” a virtual online prom for West Central Ohio, is Saturday, May 9, from 8-11 p.m.

Fun 107.1 and DJLimaOhio.com’s Phil Austin hosts the event from the Ohio Theatre with DJ SNKRZ on the turntables. 

There’s just one catch: they’ll be the only ones there.

A little help from Linus

Elijah Fry, Bluffton first grader in Mr. Dunlap’s class, gets some help from his puppy, Linus, who likes to help with schoolwork.
